car overheating

car no stop overheats when in boost. new radiator, new fan, nothing. i am going to take out my thermostat and keep it out. i was reading some other posts and they said that you could overheat if your timing is off. so if i am too far advanced it will overheat? what should my timing be at if i am runnin 42/48 intercooled b18b? i think it is too far advanced because i could take my car around the block twice in boost and come back and see my header glowing red. i need a pyrometer.... :-\ thanks

Re: car overheating

check your timing. sounds like your timing is retarted not advanced.

do you experience detonation?

Re: car overheating

no i dont experience detonation. should my timing be at factory specs? thanks

Re: car overheating

ok so i took out the thermostat and it stop the overheating by a little time. so then i decided to retard my timing and it overheated more. so i think you are right, i might be too rich? i thought i was already too rich at 5-7psi with fmu because that fmu really raises fuel pressure right? i am waiting now for it to cool down and then i am going to advance it a little. thanks for the idea thiggy! ;D

Re: car overheating

do a leakdown and compression test. running an fmu probly led to slight detonation and a blown h/g

well i dont know how to hook up the resistor pack to my wiring harness. i have uberdata. and plus the black tip of one of my 450cc's is cracked...is that bad? i hope its not headgasket.

Re: car overheating

Having your timing too far retarded will also cause high EGT reading and a glowing mani :o

The cracked black cap wont matter, pull it off, all it is is a cover to protect the pintle, just dont drop it once youve removed it :o

hey thanks a lot guys.....i am just scared to cut my wiring harness.... :-X i also advanced the timing and it doesnt heat up anymore...thank you guys soooo much. i cant believe a small factor like that can escalate into huge problems. i got my car runnin perfect right now with the fmu...at like 7psi....its QUICK :o i love the sound of a SCREAMING turbo. ;D
