Car hardly even warms up *fixed*

Since the weather has gotten freezing here my car almost never warms up. I put in a new radiator this summer. I'm also using a stock thermostat. I can drive around for maybe 15-20 minutes before the temp gauge will even start to move, and even then it doesn't get much hotter at all. If I turn my heat on full blast after I actually do manage to get the car warmed up, the temp needle will drop down lower. Any ideas? Cuz I don't have any more.

It's funny because since it's winter with a big mouth bumper, I got the same phenomenon. It takes an eternity to get it to normal temp. And if I I go down in a huge slope, the temp will lower. In the same slope, if it's windy with a bit of snow, the needle goes to the lowest point.

Don't feel bad Jon my hatch does the same thing. On my 15 minute trip to work my car never reaches even a 1/4 of the way up on the temp gauge.

maybe try what the big rig guys do and cover the rad up with cardboard...that is why they do that right?

get a higher temp thermostat, or maybe the one u have is bad, my dads delsol wouldnt warm up at all and the heater wasnt even warm, replaced the thermostat and works great now, it was just stuck open.

Re: Car hardly even warms up

I doubt it's the T-stat, it's only a couple months old and the car warms up fine in warmer weather.

Thanks for the input guys, I guess this might just be normal. I've just never had a car that takes this long to warm up in the cold before.

Your dad has a del sol? never met your dad...but pardon me while I laugh AAAHHHAHAHH WAAHHAHHAA, OMG...you gotta understand...i'm picturing a big ole' burley guy with a beard driving a del sol that wouldn't warm up, and freezing...HOLY COW it's funny...

OK, so for some advice :-) I had this happen to my DA for a while...and I just added radiator fluid (in winter make sure it's 50/50 antifreeze) and this resolved it, car warms up faster (still takes 10 minutes in below freezing weather), and heater blows hot :-)

Story of my Canadian Life!!! -21deg Cel. or -5.8deg F when I let for work. And this is just the start of the season.

I block of the rad with a nice chunk of cadboard. helps a bit. BLock Heaters Work. A little 12v Cig. Lighter heater helps.

Lol, I found out that exact thing. If I go above 2 it will actually drop my temperature.

Yea, what's your point? This has already been established in the thread.

ya its tight, clean and straight with a little ding on the back but nothing major, hes a car guy what can i say, in high school he had a 69 charger rt, green with a black stripe, about the only car id rather have over my crx :) so hes a car guy, hoping to motor swap this bitch too, what rims would look good on a delsol? right now hes trying to find some ls webs maybe but we cant get a pic of wtf itd look like on it, o ya its also white. but anyways on my z6 turbo i took the thermostat out, going down chinook pass "mountain pass to seattle area" my temp gauge would go all the way down til i started on a straight road or hill. maybe your coolant mixture is all wack? how much water do u have in there.

Re: Car hardly even warms up

You should do the carboard trick and switch to a hotter thermostat.

Hey jon. My car never heats up during the winter. Ive got a dual core radiator and i dont think that helps at all. I think im going to try the cardboard trick. My roomate had the same issues. It must be a honda thing.

Don't doubt defective parts off the shelf.

My daily driver went from warming right up the first year my momma owned it, to freezing the next, and freezing me the next two winters. Going on the third feeezing ass winter, and since the engine swap (thank you Mr Blundell) it on again off again heats up quickly. I'm pretty sure I have crap clogging up my heater core.

Might work in the winter... but in the summer I think you'd be having to flip the switch too often for it to be practical.

Thanks again guys, I am going to do the cardboard trick on Friday. I'll let you know if that speeds up the heating.

the thing is you shouldnt have to do that on a gasoline powered car. Diesel maybe, but not a damn honda. Something else is wrong.

That's like a $25 fix man!

Unless you mean his head cracked ;)

Update hoes:

Put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator and it warms up much faster now. No overheating issues and everything works well.
