can't get off Crank Pulley Bolt..Need help!!
 

i got in my car alittle while ago to go to the gas station, and when i started it up i heard a fucked up ticking-type noise? i drove to the gas station and the noise kept on, it would go faster with the revs. so when i get back i listened under the hood and it sounds like its coming from the belts on the right side of the engine. anyone know what that could be??? BTW i haven't changed my timing belt yet and its got 113,000. Please HELP ME!!

Lets start with the retard questions. Did you check your oil? Have you adjusted your valves?

ya i checked the oil and i know its not the valves. it seems like its coming from the right side of the engine, like on the side, but its loud.

i just pulled it all apart to check it out and change the timing belt, but i can't get the crank pully nut loose. i was really pulling on it too. it was bein a bitch, so now i don't know what to do.

yes i know what i'm doing. i think that it is the timing belt, because it is loose on there. when i run the car it flaps alot at idle, i can't get to it because of that ------ crank pulley. >:( i'm gonna be really pissed if i have to pay to have it done.

before you leave for work SOAK that ---- in some PB blaster, it should have penetrated anough by the time you get home



try setting your gun to the lowest setting and tightening it, then try to take it off

get a breaker bar and a 4-5 feet steel pipe...that does the job for me everytime ;)

thats the next thing i'm gonna try, but i'm kinda afraid of twisting it off. how did you keep the crank pulley from moving? i stuck a screw driver in the flywheel, but i bent the screw driver.

take ur starter out, stick something in there, turn the crank by hand and make it caught up with the tooth.

can't you put a ratchet with breaker bar on it and have it against the ground, take dizzy cap off and crank engine real quick, that should break the nut free.

works for me. i use an extra bracket that goes from the block to the drivers side mount.
then use a breaker bar and pipe. pretty easy to do.

i can't find the tensioner. my manual says it should be to the left of the water pump. but i can't see it i think its behind the cover, witch i can't get off because of the god damn crank pulley!! >:(

to adjust the tensioner you DON`T need to remove the cover.
there`s a little hole on the block cover that you can stick a socket in there to losen/tighten the adjuster nut., it should be capped off by a little rubber cap.

i finally got it, but the timing belt autozone gave me is too big. so now i have to waint untill tomarrow to fix it, because they're cloesed. :(

and thats the second belt i got from them too. the first was way too big. then the guy tells me that my engine is a 1.5, because the belt didn't fit. i told him their ------ computers are wrong. oh well, i should have it done tonight.

whats the engone code stamp on the front say? d15 or d16?

i use a 19mm socket and braker bar on the wifes celica and crank the motor with the key and it breaks the seal. The bolts are usually coate with lock tite. get some heat to it. like a flame thrower or something. then get some WD40 and get a big ass

it says D16Z6 i knew it was before though, the guy was just an idiot. it was some high school kid who doesn't know ----. but i got the belt changed and just got back from the test drive and it werks fine. i also took out the ac, too. now i'm just savin $$ to boost. ;D

yea, when I go to autozone or advanve I try to get the older guys workign tehre. Most of the younger guys and women dont know ---- and have a eat ---- attitude.

Glad to hear you got the belt changed. How did you get the pully bolt loose?

i put it in 5th and had my buddy hold the brake down, and kicked the ---- out of it. it took a while to get, but when it finally broke it sounded like i snapped the head of the bolt off, but i didn't.
