Can someone tell me how to remove the outer joint on a driveshaft???

Ok, so my passenger side axle it making noise when I turn the wheel. The inner u-joint/cup are brand new from when I put in the ZC tranny but the outer (where it bolts to the hub) is the problem.

Now I have that part I need on a spare new axle so I went to remove it tonight and that just won't go. I tried to see if there was a snap ring but I didn't see one... :S

Anyone do this?

i am not sure if can not seperate them or you can not put the new one in.
there Is a o-ring, hold the shaft stright, joint pointing down and hammer it, it should came loose in a second.

I tried that yesterday, maybe I didn't hit it enough.

The end with the splines moves about 1/8th of an inch in and out, it feels like it is catching on something but didn't move when I hit it with a hammer.

Helms doesn't show them as coming apart, even for servicing, just boot replacement.

What you need to do is turn the joint all the way to one side, then hit the inner part of the joint that sits directly on the axles' splines, then hammer it off. You should use a 5lb hammer and hit it firmly, and if it doesnt come off or get loose, turn the joint and try a different spot to hammer on it, all that is holding it on is a c clip like the one that holds the inner joint in the transmission. To get it back on, take some electrical tape, start taping it on the splines tightly and tape it so it holds the c clip tight and close in the groove, it helps the joint fit back on the right way, somtimes the clip gets jammed up and messed up.

Sweet! thanks.

And I don't want to "service" that part, I just want to swap it out with a brand new one, the whole thing. i'll try it tomorrow.
