can i turbo a stock y8
Hey everyone Im new at this so here it goes.....I have a 96 EX with a Y8 in it .....I believe the compression ratio is 9.6:1 and my question is .....is this too much compression to run with a turbo period or do I need to do a full piston and ring etc. job? thanks Philip

Re: can i turbo a stock y8
It's good to replace your pistons with forged and your connecting rods also, but it is not absolutely necessary, depending on the power that you're looking to get.
Since you sound more knowledgeable than most noobs, I'll be nice for once. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...hp?topic=28135 Read this :) and also, my buddy Josh turbocharged the exact same car. Here's his setup https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_projects/samson/ Just look around. You'll see many turbo projects and learn a lot :) |

Re: can i turbo a stock y8
From what I've read, stock y8 up to 10lb's with a really good tune. NO FMU's or AFC Hacks! I think it's been done on AFC, but that sounds incredibly risky to me, and you'd need a Boost timing retard, so It's not worth the cost savings.
I'm still piecing together my stuff, I have all my engine management and I need to source a turbo that fits my mani. So once it's together I'll let you know how it turns out and what it puts down. PS. If you end up goin for t25 turbo, I can tell u everthing I've found on em by reading and trial/error. T3 and up is out of my scope. |

CKP and CKF are the "same sensor" so just splice into the CKP when the CKF hits the trashcan, attached to the substandard Y8 oil pump. You'll want to be OBD1 to get tuned, anyway, but this allows you to run the OBD2 ECU for emissions. |

Re: can i turbo a stock y8
Eh, how hard to change oil pumps? I've never screwed with that stuff. Is it really that necessary? I've heard y8s aren't to great with supplying the needed oil...
