can i just put pistons only
hey my fellow poor people. i recently melted a piston in my jap spec single cam (d15b) and i was wondering if it would be ok to just buy some low compression (8.5:1) pistons and retain stock rods/rings/bearings/crank. what would be the effects of this and would it even work?
thanks for any input ( good or bad)
also, what pistons are good/cheap?

I don't think it would cause any harm...but it's really wouldn't do any good. If you plan to run alot of boost, your motor will only be a strong as the weakest link. If your going to go in there I would get the rods too. But before anything, check out what kind of shape the cyl. walls are in. You make put it back together to create an expensive smoking monster.
you can do it. I'd reccomend getting the cylinders at least honed. My friend has an SHO and He melted a piston in cylinder 6. He just replaced the melted piston with another used one. He than melted 7 in 2 months (same cylinder) He just kept throwing in used pistons that he yanked out of donor motors and honed the cylinder wall each time. The thing had strong compression and it didn't even smoke even though he was also reusing rings.
