burning oil? coolant? help!!

Ok,

I brought my car to the road race a couple weeks ago. And when I came into the pitting area, my buddy said, yeah looks and sounds great out there, but you're putting out a ton of smoke. I said huh? Black or white? and he said a king of white/bluish smoke.

So I figure oil right? but I tested compression, and I got like 168 173 173 178, so I don't think the rings are done, so I asked a buddy that works for M-Benz, and he suggested valve seals. Possible? I've got a D15B1 with 116,xxx hard miles on it, with z6 IM/ PM6, Chikara Header, OBD1 injectors, BM FPR @ 31psi, 2.5 ---- back exhaust. If it could be the seals, I'm not worried, cuz I've got a z6 head I'm rebuilding for this block (if it's good). I'll just toss new seals in there, to be sure...

Any suggestions or thoughts to what could be wrong would be awesome..

Thanks,
Jung

When does it smoke? Full throttle, high rpm, startup, decel,....

If the valve seals are bad it will smoke like a bitch when you first start it. My buddy had a car with completely shot vavlve seals and when he started it you couldn't see him for like 5 minutes. I never rode with him. :-[

Bad valve guides will cause smoke on deceleration. I had a Mercedes 190 once that ran great and didn't make any wierd noises, but it would smoke like a freight train if you let off the gas at highway speed. I pulled the head apart and the valve guides were so worn out you could pull them out of the head with your fingers. Stuck oil controll rings will cause smoke also. You will show good compresion but its still a ring problem. Have you overheated the engine? This will cause stuck rings. What about the coolant?

Hondas with high, or hard miles can develop somthing lovingly refered to as morning sickness. Usually due to worn rings. Usually symtoms are oil smoke at cold start through warmup, but goes away after the engine reaches operating temp.

so you know it's not the piston rings, that means it's the head, gasket sets are like 70 bucks I think, maybe you could try that?

Alright, actually the car tends to only smoke once it's warmed up. I've run the car hot, but never overheated, I'm the new head on soon, so hopefully that will fix it.
