Default Building an LS VTEC turbo

I'm looking at building this monster I just want to get the story straight.

I'm using my b16 head, so I'm going to have to block off the oil supply and move the dowels to the other side. Then make sure the head is flat with a little shop grind. Run the oil feed from the pressure sensor to the plug on the intake side by the distributor. Much like the turbo feed.

B18a/b block, supposed to get ~9.5 cr with the stock parts. Should I upgrade anything here? Are the rods to weak to run 10psi max? Not very familiar with engine so any help is greatly appreciated.

Also will the extra inch of deck height be a problem with closing the hood, its a del sol.

The rods will survive around 350whp, so 10psi shouldnt be a problem.

The hood should close just fine..

You will need to use your b16a oil pump (or any vtec oil pump) on the B18a/b. Also another good idea is a block girdle, from Z10 motorsports or Endyn. This makes the bottom end a bit stabler, and stronger.

Well it looks like the Endyn is the way to go, better value it seems.

Thanks for the help AbaZ, I know you built one so is there anything else that I should look at buying/ adding for stability? And what should I set my rev limiter at, 8500?

Set your rev limiter wherever your peak HP starts to drop, and always shift around where the torque begins to fall. (thus doing this on a dyno) to see where your at. My B20 crvtec and ls/vtec made peak power around 8250

I'll that I have to say for now is this is going to be expensive!!!

Can't find just a block, only a whole engine from a b18a/b, and the cheapest one in GOOD condition is 1200 BUCKS!!! The girdle is not bad at 300, but the GSR hardware to bolt it together is another 150-200 bucks. (Oil pan, lugs and misc ----) Oil lines from the pressure sensor to the heads can be ghetto fabbed or about 80-100 for fittings and hose. A grind for the head to make sure they are true is another 150. So 1880 to 1950 +tax CDN to get this set up.

I haven't had an opportunity to rip apart my B16 to see if my pump got hit from shrapnel (sp?) so I might need a new pump.

I may puss out and just get a B16 shortblock for 350 CDN...

I think you are overrating the prices for the machining. If you don't go to big expensive place it should be pretty cheap. Sorry about the block though. That sucks.

dude, if you can't find a b18a/b for cheaper than 1200 bucks, you don't need to do this project! i bought a 97 b18b complete longblock with im, tb, fuel rail, injectors, and every sensor, with 55k miles on it for 500 bucks! hell, you can usually find a complete longblock on ebay for around the same price, sometimes you'll even find a shortblock for about 2-300 bucks, i suggest you look around some more

Okay boys I picked up a JDM b18b for 750 cdn less than 50 thousand kilo's. I think that Is a steal, the exhaust manifold had NO RUST, my old one was covered in rust with only 100k, the whole motor looks pretty sweet though.

About the endyn girdle what do you guys recommend for hardware, the guy at the ONLY place in canada to get says I need tons of ---- off a GSR to bolt it on, I'm not sure that this is true, because the Z10 girdle is pretty much the same and they don't want me to buy a new oil pickup, crank and other ----. The guys said yesterday it would cost 500 HUNDRED for parts just to get the girdle to work?!?!?!

Projeckteg, all my prices and numbers are Canadian and Metric, hope that helps you out a bit. And Tax in Ontario is 15% so that raises the prices a bit more as well.
