Building HF block

so i got a spare HF block lying around, its already stripped and in decent condition, no cracks, etc... i also have a spare y8 head kicking around. anyways i was thinking about building it up, using the block filling method posted on the sticky to reinforce the block, but im worried about the rods, the're like ------- toothpicks, anyone know what crank/rods/pistons will fit in there? ima try and buiild it with the lowest lowballer budget possible. thanks

Re: Building HF block

just use it stock or dump it
if its not at least 1.6l then its not worth building or filling or any of that ----

well lets see thats the only engine that i dont knwo about as far as internals but the only difference i can see between that d15 and the others is the cylinder head. you could probably use the d16 pistons cause it has the same bore as the d15s (75) and a cr of 9.2:1(d16a6); 9.4:1(d16y5/7); 9.6:1(d16y8). other then that you would have to probably use any d15b rods/pistons soo look it up there isnt many piston/rod combos that will fit in there rods would have to stay d15 because the next one closets to it in the d family is the d16 rods with have a larger stroke 84.5--->90 and rod length of 134mm----->137mm. that is of course if the d16 piston will fit on a d15 rod or vise versa.

Only HF or D13/D14 rods will work with the HF crank. I'm not sure, but don't think the other D15 cranks will fit either.

so pretty much the only internals that will fit are the original ones... maybe i should get the HF rods shotpeened ;D

I suggest selling or trading for something that takes less work like a d15/16 they are dirt cheap.

the most productive thing you can do with it is save it for a replacement engine if you ever kill the one that's already in your car. atleast you'll be able to get around during the down time.
