budget piston rings replacement??

So my girlfriend is pregnant and we're looking at selling her integra and using the money towards a CRV, the only problem is it burns oil in #3 cylinder and doesn't look so good in the others as well. My question is this; Could I just pull the head and drop the oil pan, loosen the rod bolts, drop the caps, pull the pistons from the top.. hone the block, replace the rings and drop it back in with some STD rod bearings and sell it like that? should work fine without all the fancy dial bore gauge, plastic gauge sized bearings, etc... am i right? opinions needed.

i've done this.
i dropped the pan and pulled the head
pull the one piston from the top, put new rings on it.
give the thing a light hone, being careful not to hit the crank with the hone tool. reuse the bearings i just took off.
the engine i did is running fine, it probably has 20k miles on my "rebuild"

i would say it depends on the shape of the crank.

now reusing the bearings sounds feasable as long as you PUT THEM BACK THE WAY THEY CAME OUT.

i would imagine both scenarios would be that should work for a while....

I did the same thing, only I used whatever bearings were in the rods that chris sent me cause I broke all 4 of my pistons. I also used whatever rings were in there cause my cylinder walls were fucked and I wasn't wasting a dime more than necessary.

It lasted a few thousand miles of 12+psi on my unknowledgable tune before it spun a rod bearing. If your bearings are good keep them in order, clean, prelube and torque to spec. It should hold fine.

I am actually thinking of doing this with the black hornet but swapping for eagles and vitaras.

Didn't imburn do just that and notch the block with it all in the car? I just can't remember if he left the crank in.

The rings maybe stuck in the ring lands and is not moving properly.
If so, you may not need to replace the rings.
I've taken the pistons out carefully take the rings off the piston clean all the carbon out of the ring lands.
Put the old rings back on the piston and put the pistons and rods back in.

Or you could use one can of Restore treatments in the crankcase and drive about 100 - 500 miles and see if the stops burning oil.

How many mile on the engine?
If there is 100K+ just clean the ring lands unless you feel a lip on the cylinder wall thicker than a finger nail.
If thicker than a finger nail then maybe get new or better shape used rings.

Could also buy another running motor for real cheap because there is usually some a kid out there who thinks they can not have a civic w/o a B or a K series.
I find d-series motors all the time for free or upto $100
