well if your taking the head off you want to get a new head gasket, and probly new head bolts, also a new valve cover gasket if its in bad shape. and if you got the money might as well throw some goodies in there, cams and what not, ---- whatever you want
i have personly never delt with springs before, but im sure someone on hear will give you some tips

I've handled a couple broken OHV springs in my day.. valve float is bad.

What motor are you talking about?

You're going to need a head gasket to start with.. consider valve cover, intake, exhaust gaskets and timing belt while you are at it.
