Broke an axle?

Broke an axle?
I was driving home the other night, and when I was going around a left hand turn I felt some tugging to the right, like a flat tire. I got out to check but all was well. I drove the rest of the way and no other instances of the jerk.
Today I came home from work on break, and the jerking came back and stayed there. It only jerks to the right when going straight or left, but it jerks left while turning hard right. It doesn't seem to do it while accelerating, but cruising, coasting, or braking all seem to make the jerk come up.
I pulled the passenger front wheel and the boot on the CV axle is completely torn from the joint, but still hanging around the axle. Is this a broken axle? Should I just buy a new one? Or should I look elsewhere?

Re: Broke an axle?
So should I replace the whole axle or should I just get a boot kit?
Band aid fix or not, if it will stop it for the time being I'm going to do that. This car is going down as soon as I pick up a new DD.
