Re: brake question???

Bang on it, pry with 2 flatheads on opposite sides. No bolts holding it on.

Re: brake question???

Get the drum off first. And download the shop manual that's in the sticky at the top of this forum :1

Re: brake question???

take you hammer and smoke the face of the drum on the edge

seriously, thats what u do. As a mechanic not just a internet mechanic. u have to hit them hard if there realy stuck.

heavier hammer and give it hell, the drum will pop forward then u just slide it off

HMTguy 11-01-2007 07:06 PM

Re: brake question???

Re: brake question???

Smoke=kill=beat the ---- out of the given subject....which in this case is a brake drum.

Re: brake question???

iv done brakes before but never had this much trouble..well iv slamed on it for about an hour total and it only moved a little thats why i asked if their were any bolts or something maybe still attached ...i guess i'll get out the sledge and smash at it

HMTguy 11-01-2007 08:47 PM

Re: brake question???

don't use a hand sledge, if you really pound that drum there's a possibility of cracking/warping/skipping off, breaking something. big ------ rubber mallet, good, thick shaft, wide tip screwdrivers, or a good prybar. also, if you're gonna be replacing the brakes, spray that ---- down with PB or something. who cares if you get oil on the old pads? don't forget the star wheel, back that fucker down so the shoes dont grip the drum too

good tips should make things go alot smoother :y

HMTguy 11-02-2007 01:57 AM

Re: brake question???

Rubber mallet is for suckers, use a sledge. If it doesn't come off just keep banging harder/prying until it does.

Re: brake question???

use the two screw holes, 8x1.25 thread I believe.

Turdbo 11-02-2007 02:55 AM

Re: brake question???

^^^good idea...i forgot all about them damn things ..i have to go get some hardware anyway ... :6

Zeniceguycrx 11-02-2007 06:56 PM

Re: brake question???

if it still doesnt work go to the back of the drum and there will be a little black rubber thing.
pop that out and u hae acess to the adjuster. spinn it all the way in and the drum should slide of.

also if the drum is that bad(rust ridge)u should replace the drums while u are at it to it doesnt matter how hard u hit that fucker

Re: brake question???

well good news guys..the drum came off with just a few slams with the sledge and no i didnt hit my studs :6.....anyway now im on to the E-brake...i have the drums all taken apart ready to install new hardware, shoes , drums and new susp. bushings ...but i need to take the E-brake off and its a little rusty inside ...their is some type of little clip on the inside of the drum keeping the cable inside the drum that needs to come off but the rust is making it a bitch...could it be cut off?..and on the back of the drum will the cable just slide out of the back once the clip comes off or maybe it looks like its kinda screwed on their ???

btw the shop manual page doesnt work

Re: brake question???

www.autozone.com

also unless u are changing the cable dont cut it

Smith-02 11-03-2007 09:12 PM

Re: brake question???

theres usually a clip on the pin that hold the e-brake cable, similar to a door lock clip. also could be a c-clip

Turdbo 11-04-2007 10:18 PM

Re: brake question???

im not changing the cable so im not cutting it..but the clip is weird its not a c clip ???

im my experiences, they use something like a c-clip but you crimp it, or a c-clip or that weird horseshoe clamp

and jago, go fist yourself if this isn't how it goes :-* :-*

How did you ---- that up? Of all the stubborn drums I've ever had to remove, I've never broken anything. I chipped a fin ONCE on my old Celica, but never broken anything. I used heavy sledges and just wailed on the sides until I saw it budge. Then I just pried it off.
