brake pads?
hope this is in the right place didnt think it much of a tech question.
I need some new pads soon. for a 95 teg. I think I have some hawk pads on there, but i dont remember and im too lazy to check. want better than stock but not something nuts that's loud and has loads of dust. just a better than average pad for heavy street use. I drive 60+ miles each way on a mountain highway everyday. also if anybody has a suggestion on where to pick some up for a moderate amount of money that would be appreciated as well. |
Re:brake pads?
I went to napa, or autozone.. lol i know there is a big difference between them.
the place i usually go to is similar to a napa and get the lifetime warranty.. cheap brakes.. hold up pretty decent.. but when they are worn out.. i take them back for new ones.. my friend went to autozone for the same thing. |
Re:brake pads?
personally, i use bendix pads they are the greatest thing that ever exsisted. :) you can get em at CSK (Checker / Shucks / Kragens) they are great. low dust, LONG LIFE, wonderful all around :)

Re:brake pads?
Im more interested in a pad a bit higher performance than a lifetime warranty type pad. thanks though.

Re:brake pads?
You could go with greenstuff or redstuff pads. Just go look around. If you don't have any clue that means that you havn't searched this site or google even.

Im asking for some input from someone who has experience with higher end pads and has some suggestions. Have you used either green stuff or red stuff? green stuff has a tendency to scar rotors, not so interested in those. how did the reds feel? did they take a while to warm up or did they heat up quickly? If you dont have a clue dont bother responding. |
Re:brake pads?
With the green stuff you just have to match them to a proper rotor.
I have also run hawk pads. They are good, but I didn't think they were worth the money for what I did with them. I jsut ran them because I got a deal on them. Porterfield are also good. I would jsut suggest running OEM grade pads. Unless you do AutoX or something. |

If you dont have a clue dont bother responding. Alright, lemme break this down to you, you didnt wanna listen to my advice about the pads i suggested, Im a brake tech bro. none of the higher end pads will have any effect on your rotors, the green and red stuff EBC pads are meant for cross drilled or slotted rotors, you wanna stop? get some semi metalic pads, they will rip up your rotors nice but they will still stop when hot, if you want cheap ---- get ceramics, they wont last, they will leave lots of dust and they wont stop when they heat up. knowing you, you're prolly a pad slapper, meaning by this you dont turn your rotors and/or drums you just slap new pads on and call it a day, if you have a lip on your rotor edge chances are you need a new damn rotor, there is a spec on the inner back of the rotors, mic em out and if they are .020 or more above, cut em, if not take your ass and buy some rotors. like i said before, Bendix owns. |
Re:brake pads?
That is what I was saying about the greenstuff pads, you have to have the proper rotors and you are good to go.
If you don't get your rotors turned or replaced, then just shoot yourself. |
Re:brake pads?
I don't turn my rotors, have them shaved, or replace them. :-X Slap on some OEM pads and do it up. And I have the lip :-\
Oh well. It's worked well for all my cars :P |

Re:brake pads?
i use Bamboo rotors (front only, DRUMs in the back :P)
AEM pads and stainless steel lines all around. it hold up really good at high temp. (mountain runs) but the weir thing is tthe working temp on these pas are kinda high?? on really cold weather it needed to be warmed up. (take like 5 times of braking to get decent brake power) |
Re:brake pads?
green stuff ebc's are pretty decent, your hawks are OK, axis metal master's will do well for you. I personally use axis in the rear on my car, in the front I use wilwoods, I've had very good luck with greenstuff's also. I don't particularly like hawks, but I can't put my finger on why. I think w/ the amount of driving you are doing the best bang for YOUR buck will be the axis pads, as they seem to last the longest, put out minimal dust and still perform as well as the other performance brands.

Re:brake pads?
thanks bamboo.
I was actually looking for your input specifically on this as i figured youd have a bit of experience. Any heads up on where to order? best ive found on the axxis is fastbrakes $65 Id like to find decent prices on porterfield r4s's too, but have had zero luck. |
Re:brake pads?
I've used VGX pads with cross drilled rotors and I loved them. They lasted forever with my driving. The rears I always get cheapy pads because I never have any luck keeping the rear pads alive. :-\ I hate rear drums......

Re:brake pads?
Really? They suck? I abused the ---- out of them and they never faded. I would look at them like every time I got out of my car(it was a strange habit, plus I could see them through the rims)and they never showed any signs of wear. ??? I'd buy them again. :-\

http://www.cobaltfriction.com/
andie is the bomb. Just let him know what you are looking for and he can suggest a set for you. I've had experience with Axxis Ultimates, Hawk HP+, and Cobalt GT sports. They all get the job done. All very streetable and perform well imo at autox. |

Re:brake pads?
I've got hawk hp+ with powerslot rotors and i'm very happy.
Braking is so much better than stock. Also didn't notice much noise or dust. |
