Bouncy Tack

Ok, My tack has been doing this for a while now and I just ignore it since this isn't the Daily drive well untill now, I know a bad ignitor could be the cause but it dosn't effect my spark and i bought my dizzy used but it was only a few months old and still looked brand new also has new plugs and wires... the car is idling fine and the tack just goes crazy...I think i have heard of something else causeing this but I can't remeber...could it be the wire running to the tac or a ground maybe? Shoot me some ideas or if anyone else has had the same problem let me know what it was, thanks for the help...Matt

Re: Bouncy Tack

its most likely the igniter in your distributer

check the wire for continuity. It could be getting some other signal into it.

also abr. for Tachometer is Tach

Re: Bouncy Tack

Thermostat housing ground, or igniter are the two most likely culprits. Bad grounds = frux things happen, and the tach signal is synthesized by the ignitor based on IGO signal from the ECU so if the ignitor is going bad it can du just what you describe.

ososlohatch has a good point with the instrument cluster plugs.

Re: Bouncy Tack

I fixed it :D

I had a spare dizzy so i took the ignitor out of that and then proceded to remove the one in the dizzy i was using...they were both brown...which I have read the black ones were recalled but the one in the dizzy was generic and the spare I had said NEC which were the replacments for the recall so I decided I'd just use that one...when i removed the old one, one of the wire clips slid off a little to easy so I squished it with some plyers and put my spare in and there ya have it good as new...I am think the ignitor was fine and it was just the loose wire but better safe than sorry...

Don't you love it when the first thing you try fixes the problem...now just a million other little annouying things to fix...Thanks for the help...Matt
