blockgaurd or no?

like its says, the guy thats gonna biuld my motor suggested a block guard since im gonna be running 15psi. and i dont want my cylinders to get egg shaped. what do you think? pros and cons?

Re:blockgaurd or no?

do you have LOTS of money?

mahcivic 04-22-2004 01:59 PM

Re:blockgaurd or no?

well i have money but i limit my self to what i spend on my car. i have to pay for school and insurance and all that junk. why do you ask?

hotrex 04-22-2004 03:10 PM

Re:blockgaurd or no?

no need for a block guard

mahcivic 04-22-2004 03:24 PM

Re:blockgaurd or no?

since there only 100 bux i think im gonna get one instead of having nothing at all. id rather be safe than have a 2000 dollar motor thats worthless after i put 15psi thorugh it.

Re:blockgaurd or no?

After everything I have read about block guards... ---- block guards and I would never use one in any of my cars. I would be more worried with a block guard than if I had nothing. Spend that 100 bucks on tuning and you will be fine.

Re:blockgaurd or no?

i agree with beerbongskickass, ---- a block gaurd, i heard they are ----.. you could post your block tho, search for posting a block.

what kind of motor?

mahcivic 04-22-2004 04:38 PM

Re:blockgaurd or no?

so you guys think that with the right tunning my stock sleeves can handle the 15psi? i guess ill take your word on it, cause you guys are always right :)

Re:blockgaurd or no?

i understand what a block guards intended purpose is, but what exactly makes them so bad?

mahcivic 04-22-2004 05:24 PM

Re:blockgaurd or no?

i mean if it was installed right, wouldnt it work for the intended purpose of supporting the upper part of the sleeves? that article looked like that guys block gaurd was installed a little crooked, one side lower than the other or something. but i still dont understand what makes em so bad. i mean pretty set on not getting one now but its just good to know

Re:blockgaurd or no?

use a real blockguard and have it professionally installed. this is the best one ive seen.

Re:blockgaurd or no?

From what i read its what the block gaurd is made of as your motor heats up the metal expands. that bock guard was made of a different material than the sleeves. so as it heated up it made a hot spot on the cylinders. but i dont see why it would oval the cylinders unless it was installed incorrectly. I would personally go with post from endyne. they are made with the same metal as our blocks so it gets rid of the hot spots. and you can put them on yourself.

My question how much boost can you run on a BUILT BLOCK with LOW COMPRESSOIN with out a block guard????

hotrex 04-22-2004 09:10 PM

Re:blockgaurd or no?

RENR 04-23-2004 04:23 AM

Re:blockgaurd or no?

IMO im not to sure about posting a block, i know whitey disagrees with the procedure and hes a nuclear geek of somekind. go with the blockgaurd mang.

I know someone run a d16z6 to 11.56 sec on the 1/4 mile, and run a nuformz block guard since 5 years ;) it's daily driven

Re:blockgaurd or no?

Block gaurds are just a gamble, they work for some people, and others they done, Throw it up in the ait and see what happens

Re:blockgaurd or no?

I'm using posts on the motor I'm about to put in, but my post count has nothing to do with my intellegence. I think with enough money you could make either of them beneficial, but I'm poor and posted. 8)

Re:blockgaurd or no?

Both are definitely proven to work and def strengthen the cyl walls. The block guard will provide more support at the cost of overheating if its not a well made block guard. Posts work just as well and you dont have the overheating problem.. you just have to do them right(Please refer to Kyles write up for this)

and just like stealth here my high post count should not suggest to you that I'm smart, I really don't know much, but I cut my own hair for those pictures.
