Block swap w/o removing tranny?

i was wondering if i could swap out my blown y7 block w/o having to take out the tranny and axles? maybe support the tranny then unbolt the motor out?

i heard its possible. But just drop the engine/tranny from the bottom. So much easier that way.

Yes..
I just did it today.
You don't need to suppor the tranny cause it has most of the supports on it.
just put a jack under the engine..unblot it from the tranny..you need to remover alternator and the crank pulley.
Take of the engine mount(s) on the driver side....pull the sucker out from the tranny and then you can lift it out.
I did it by hand in a EF....saw it been done in an EG..it's easier cause there is more space.

but the fun will be when you try to align the tranny to mate it back with the motor.........

you can pull the engine off the trans and leave the trans in the car. the engine mounts will hold the trans up. good luck putting it back togther.

axles are easy just pull the motor

Re: Block swap w/o removing tranny?

is it really that much easier to pull them out the bottom? everyone i pulled i pulled through the top

its not that hard to do, but putting it back together is a pain in the ass, it is possible though, i've done it twice.

yup it is so much easier to do it from the bottom than from the top.

Re: Block swap w/o removing tranny?

Just yank them both. Pulling the axels is easy. It takes like 5mins a side to get the suspension out of the way, then just pull em out.

exactly, For some reason that is so much easyer to do outside the engine compartment.

if you're alone take everything of..if you have some help leave the tranny...just use an alignment tool for the clutch and you're ok..

i've always done engine and tranny out the top.

jeff says its quicker to do just engine out the top, but it looks like a pain in the ass to me.

I've tried it once and it's more work to just leave it in there and take the engine out and getting it back in. I'd say it'd be easier to take it out the top if your gonna leave the tranny in though.

Well I have have taken engines out the car from the top and bottom. But i find it easier to swap it out from the bottom. But thats just my 2 cents.
