Block Prep??? help needed

Well during the spring i plan to build up my D16, since they are cheep engines and the pistons and rods for them are cheep,it seems worth it, i plan on buying eagle rods and pistons, ne ways do i need to surface the head, post the block or just get a block guard? also i know i just hone out the cylinders since i'm staying with 1.6 liter i dont need to bore anything out right? i plan on doing a setup for 20 psi max, tell me what i need to do to achieve this? i will only be runing at 15 but in case i get boost spikes i want to be safe. can anybody tell me the steps in building up an engine, i want to do this myself and need your guys help, i dont want a shop doing my work for me, i rather screw up a few times and learn, ne ways, yeah please help a buddie out.

Don't get a blockguard...In the tech section there is a a "step by step" about posting your block...you can go to www.theoldone.com to read some about block posting.
i think most aftermarket pistons are 75.5mm thats 0.5mm..So I don't think you need to bore out the cilinders.
That should hold 15 psi.
The most important upgrade for running 15 reliable is fuel and ignition management. Go with sumkind of standalone or ghettodyne, TurboEDIT.

if you are about serious HP and want to do it RIGHT the first time sleeve that sucker.

You bores might be out of round and you might need to bore it out to get back into round. Not alot, but maybe enough to require different pistons and/or rings. Sleeves can be done to any size PERFECT round so u can re-use ur pistons.

You dont have to get the head re-surfaced, but get it check for true flat.

And for 20psi max, standalone, no other choice. Zdyne, Ghd or turboedit are all great choices.

1 more thing.. 15psi, you'll need a new MAP, GM 2BAR ;)

and you wouldnt want to use .5mm overbore without getting it bored....i will be attempting 20+ psi using my smc hopefully soon, stock map...ill let you know how it goes

Things you should replace for reliable high power:
Rods
Pistons
Sleeves (but if you're spending that much money just go buy an H22 that has a closed deck and will handle the boost!)

In other words, just post your block like on tech, and spend your time on engine management. My buddy's D16a6 took 13.5 psi stock internals, and pushed it to 221 whp using Hondata, never had an issue, but he sold the kit. Get some solid injectors, and tune it to ----.

Good luck

thanx guys, i wont start the project till spring, and wont have nough cash to by a zdyne unit right away, however i do want to build up my engine and run 7 psi to start with, then over time as i make more money i will do the rest and crank up the boost

Same boat here. Do this:
Have a machine shop or someone make sure your bores are round. If they arent you'll need to overbore (this effects what pistons to buy) BUT, before you bore, buy your pistons to match the bore size to the pistons.
It's confusing, but if you just buy standard bore pistons and then your bores are out of round. Your screwed. I'm trying to do all the steps in the right order as we speak. :P
