Default Block Posting w/ Piston change?

I was reading about the "Block Posting" and I was wondering if you should do this before or after you put in pistons? I got a set of some PR3 pistons that I want to put in. I am going to take it to a machine shop to get those put in. Also get them to shotpen the rods, and re-hone the pistons. Should I also tell them that I want them to "post the block"? I also have heard that its good to get the head and blocked deck too?

With the pistons, Im going to use two head gaskets to lower compression. Im slowing piecing together my turbo kit.

Anyone have input ? Has anyone in the Philly area done this block posting ? Please let me know.

Get the block posted, then honed, then get the pistons put in. I don't think your average machine shop is going to know what you're talking about when you ask them to "post" your block.

I would get the head surfaced and if the block ever overheated, get the blcok decked, or at leat check to make sure it's straight. The machine shop should be able to tell you if it needs it.

I wouldn't suggest stacking head gaskets. You're just asking to blow one when you do that.

Whoever does the work, I' did it in this order.

-Take the whole block apart, all sensors and everything.
-Clean it.
-Do the posting.
-Clean it.
-Bore and/or hone.
-Clean it.
-Put it together.

Can you guess what priority seems to be at the top? lol.

Thanks, do you know how much a shop will charge me to do this ? Or do you think you could give me a rough estimate ?

I had:

bored and honed .10 over
flywheel resurfaced
crank grind
head rebuilt
head and block decked
misc machining/cleaning up parts

It took 7 months for all of this to be complete. I got to know the guys there very well. They felt sorry about the timing of this project and only charged me $360, but that was about $6-700 worth of machining.
A basic bore and hone should be able to be done for about $75 IMO, but you will decide to go further and do other stuff too.

I got my block bored .020" over, honed, and the crank polished for $78, I got a nice discount because I was going to the local community college automotive classes at the time. I also got to post the block in class.

Maybe you should have left that job up to one of the "A" students. haha. I still can't believe you did that to your poor block.

at the school where I went you could have 30% attendence, not learn a damn thing, come to class 2 hours late on the days you do show up, and still get an A, I was an A+ student.
