Block Notching...WFT?
I have my DOHC ZC torn down to the block, now I'm looking for forged pistons/rods. Every ZC/D-series Rod I have ssen for sael requires "block notching". Im sure this is probably a common process, but this is my first complete rebuild. What the ---- is block notching? Im not to keen on removing metal from the engine block randomly, so I need to know exaclty what the ---- they are talking about. Will the rods not clear or something?
Please enlighten me with uncontrollable knowledgeabilities.

So you are telling me that the rods are going to contact the block at a certain point? What did you use to remove the sections of the block? die grinder..ect.?
It pretty much means that because aftermarket rods are thicker, they'll make contact with the block at the base of the sleeve. You pretty much have to mark where it's going to make contact, and then remove the aluminum with a die grinder.
I used a dremel. I remove a notch 3/4" wide centered, 1/4" down the cylinder and 1/4" into the block. This is on a D16A1 but thats the same ---- as a zc. Marked it with a sharpie and got busy. Clean the hell out of the block or have it hot tanked. One little metal particle can ---- a bearing. Assembled the whole thing and it spins flawlessly
Not keen on discussing the setup, but what the hell:

Tuner Toyz Rods
Endyne Wave Rollers
Cosmetic MLS
Beck Arnley main & rod bearings
Arp Headstuds
