I have a 91 crx dx with 125,000 miles. It has a cold air intake and a straight threw exaust no cat. My freinds say when I accelerate fast my exhust blows out black smoke and sparks everytime I shift. Is that normal?

 

I gotta question that goes along with this as well..what about a turbocharged car...is it normal for it to smoke alot?? Just wonderin' 'cause I rode with a friend of mine one time, he has like a 89 or so model Z28 with a pretty well built 327...he gotta challenge from this guy in a 86 or 87 model turbo regal..lol...the regal was LEAVING us, but the damn thing was just POURING black smoke outta the tailpipe..is this normal with a boosted car or was he burning oil real bad or what whatever it was that car was flying, smoking or not...

 

I agree that the black smoke means that you are running rich, as far as the sparks I have a friend that his LS crx does that. I never really got a good explanation for the sparks, but I'll ask.

 

i get a litte black smoke under full boost, from what i understand it is just burnt gas, so i guess black smoke is fine, with blue or white smoke i would worry.
