BIG PROBLEM ZC TIMING BELT

ok so i was driving down the road and my car shut off. i popped the hood and my timing belt snapped on my dohc zc. now i have 2 questions. one what timing belt would i use. my guess would be the 88 integra with the dohc d16 in it but im not to sure. my next question is when the belt broke it did not make any abnormal noise it just shut down the motor. no clanking or knocking or any thing. is it possible that i did not ---- up my motor. like bend any valves or hit any pistons or anything like that. any help will be apprieciated thank you

Re: BIG PROBLEM

Not sure on the belt application but most honda motors are interference, that is the pistons and valves share the same space. So find a belt and do a compression check.

i used a 89 prelude timing belt on my zc i tried the 88 integra and it fit to tight i dont know and thats normal of no noise nothing happen to my zc but if u kept cranking it after you blew the belt then do a compression check but but mine was still ok

they're interference motors but it depends on the motor. We had a MDX come into my shop that was all fucked up from a shop that did a timing belt job. Long story short- the belt got chopped up somehow from a shitty aftermarket waterpump and stripped all the teeth on the belt. We threw a new one one and it was fine.

an 88 prelude si timing belt is the one you need and if you broke the timing belt you bent valves ill almost gaurentee it

you might not of bent any valves ive seen quite a few cars come through work with broken timing belts with no bent valves

yeah i am hoping i did not bend any valves. then engine was at idle when it broke and it seemed as if i just lost spark no noise just the engine shut off. im going to put the belt on this weekend and i guess ill see. thank you guy very much

I've gotten lucky on 2 snapped timing belts (b18a1/d16z6) and not so lucky on 1 (h23A1) If its really broke broke I wouldnt expect valves NOT to be bent, but put a new one on and give it a try anyway.

+1 that is the belt it needs. I had two t-belt break on to different sohc. First time it broke motor was near red line, replace it and no bent valves. I had another one snap while the motor was idealing and it bent a few valves :S. I guess it just comes down to luck.
