Re: bent speed sensor gsr tranny

I've seen cave drawings that had more detail then those pics buk. lol. If it's bent then the shaft inside could be bent and locked in place. Causing the plastic gear that's on it to not turn and could just get chewwed up in the tranny and all those plastic peices be floating inside your tranny. Pull it out and see if it still spins freely. I wouldn't risk it and possibly damage the tranny. GSR trannies aren't exactly cheap.

well i just pulled it out and the plastic gear doesnt look like its missing any material :-\

but it is chewed up badly.. not bitten off chewed up but like chewing pen chewed up

now using my uncontrollable knowledgabilities i ASSume that even if the speed sensor was bent by say a engine hoist chain.. since the plastic gear isnt THAT damaged i dont think that the plastic gear can have enough force to ---- up or bend anything inside the tranny :'(

amirite or amirite :P

http://www.t-mobilepictures.com/phot...o9ht4l4byzabzy

now lets talk about something else..

i have no oil in the engine and tranny and had removed the shift linkage while the tranny was still in gear.. i was too lazy to get under the car and put it in neutural.. so i had someone in the car holding the clutch down while i pushed the car.. does this mean engine wasnt rotating

lets say theoretically if a clutch were to be dropped while the car was being pushed could this cause any damage to the engine :X

can i use my b16a speed sensor in my gsr..

igotnothin 04-27-2008 07:10 PM

Re: bent speed sensor gsr tranny

WTF buck, you starting to sound like me in this post :l :l

but if you rotate the engine a little bit it should be fine even without any oil in the pan, the longer the oil has been out of the pan, the more oil has actually dried, or worked its way out of the bearings and what not.. so if you just emptied the pan, you should be ok....

I rotated my engine every week while it sat in the garage, over winter last year, and it is all good, as far as that issue is concerned..

and i did notice that i had my car running while on jack stands, lmao, and even in nutral that bitch was slowly spinin some tires...lmao

but with it in gear, and the clutch pressed they were moving a little bit as well, so it is possible it could rotate the engine, but highly unlikely unless if you" dropped the clutch."

Don't run the fucked up VSS. I've never pulled a VSS out of a bad trans that looked chewed like that. They are cheap, just get another. :y

Not sure how my answer wasn't straight...

If you want pieces of plastic all over the inside of your trans, sure, run it.

dude! the vss is chewed up but its not missing any plastic..

im talking about my tranny.. is there any pernament damage?

im talking about replacing the vss and running the tranny is that fine

the reaon its chewed up is because it was bent.. did that ---- up anything in the tranny?

i WILL replace the VSS is the tranny fine?

i got some gears that are still good in the shattered b16 trannyi dont know which ones tho id have to open it :P

so i take it that the tranny is fine.. right? since the plastic gear isnt strong enough to ---- up anything inside the tranny?

igotnothin 04-28-2008 08:56 AM

Re: bent speed sensor gsr tranny

you got it ;)

Id say if there isn't plastic missing, like you said , you are fine, the plastic isn't strong enough to strip the metal gears. Put a new vss in and call it good. If you really want to you could flush your trans real quick, and give your self that extra bit of confidence.
