Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
how does that intake feel on n/a setup, i thought it was meant for turbo since it has such short runers and large plenum.
other than that looks nice |

other than that looks nice I got it near to nothing, so it works just fine :) Jeff |
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
yea looks really nice man! it was funny, cuz last weekend i saw a crx with the "B16" in it..and raced an AWD TSi. it was funny cuz the crx won by like 4 cars.....i asked him what he really had done. he said LS\Vtec. i laughed!

Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
looks nice man, ever ran that car at the track?
|
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
175! Nice, lets see the dyno. I need to get my B18 going.
|
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
I broke my scanner, so I cant scan it.... I'll have to borrow Adams scanner... :)
Jim, did you see Adams Torque #'s? ------- crazy... :o B18, Jim your never gonna get that done! Just like the long awaited Individual T-body setup!! Jeff |
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
Mine is getting closer to being back in work. The whole thing may be racing this next season on the roadcoarse.

Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
a friend made 220hp i think it was out of his na b20vtec setup so your doin pretty well...
|
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
have you guys got to clean up adams fuel maps yet??? last i heard his dyno graph was all over the place....he does run a zydne right?
|
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
come on jim let the rex out on the drag strip too.
hey jeff post some pics of the shift linkage so everyone knows why you dont modify a d series shift linkage to work on a b series setup, its not pretty. Beau |
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
ok, this may come back to bite me but doesn't the ls/vtec combo have a fairly high compression ratio over both the standard ls and or gsr? if if so will that not be a problem when it comes to adding the turbo later??
feel free to bite my head off now.... |
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
he is running stock LS pistons, thats a 9.7:1 CR (says that above). the B16A has like a 10.2:1 and the GSR has around the same. he should be ok with a turbo...

Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX

Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
Yes they are Nology hotwires, I found 3 of them in the garbage behind a local import shop.. (brand new) I called up nology and ordered the 1 missing wire and put them on. Did I notice a gain? I have no idea, since they are the only wires I have ever used on this motor. But I honestly doubt they made any bit of a differnce. I use to have a set on my old D16a6, and they were nothing special.. Very overrated.. (but nice ground straps on the wires!) Jeff lol, j/k man, nice score! ;D |

Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
I found jeff sleeping in the dumpster behind Safeway once. He said he just got tired after looking for dinner.
Beau ;) heh J/K Jeff |
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
Dumpster diving is very hard work, and I can see why Jeff might need to nap on occasion. :D

Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
Is the LS/VTEC really worth it? I have did a little research and read good and bad things about building this engine. The idea seems good since you get the displacement/torque at the low end and VTEC at the top end. But since the LS block wasn't designed to rev as high as the GSR head, how well does this block/head combo really work together as far as reliability and cost?
|
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
My cost was pretty cheap, I cut every corner I could.. It is true that the LS/Vtec has been known for problems, but I think the name has got a bad rep from people doing it all wrong.
Basically some kids slapping on a B16a head on a Stock B18a with 175k miles and not knowning what they were really doing. So then they go out and rape the ---- out of it, complain that it leaks, and now it knocks. Probably also using a B16a ecu as well. Which means it runs like ----. I highly recommend rebuilding the bottom end with new bearings, and using a Vtec oil pump. Also using Factory gaskets. You really shouldnt have a problem. I am worried sometimes about the whole rod stroke ratio idea, especially since when I dyno'd all my peak HP was at 8000rpms. Oh well, its to early to tell so far... Jeff |
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
so the bottom end is completely stock like the crankshaft and and rods and pistons but u rebuilt it with new parts ????
|
Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
You find alot of cool ---- dumpster diving, I found a computer once and it worked and it was like brand new, just had a busted up outside. And around me there is an junkyard that no ones owns, its just free for everybody. Every now and then you will see a new car out there that some one just dumped there.

Re:Bay Pic of my LS/Vtec CRX
No, the bottom end hasnt been touched, just incredibly low milage.
