battery problems

i blew my stock z6 motor and now i have a built z6 with vitaras and eagle rods. well i put the battery on and i connected everything i put the ground on the battery terminal and as soon as i touch it with the power cable to the terminal it cuts the terminal. just melts it. now i know theres a short somwhere but i cant figure out where. and when i do get the positive on the terminal my ground wires start to hear up and melt. i have no idea what to do and what it is. i checked the harness to see if i connected everything and its all good. all my grounds are good and everything. i checked the starter and the alternator to see if the plugs are on and its all good. Please help ive been waiting two months to start and drive this thing

Re: battery problems

sounds like a ground loop to me....

Or maybe simply a bad cable...worn out casing is allowing cable to touch motor or body. get out to flashlight and start diggin'. Start at the battery terminal and work your way back from their one wire at a time. if your toasting those terminals then whatever it is thats shorted is a bigger gauge wire than what is melting

Alternator power should be fused, without looking it sounds like you might have hooked the positive cable for the starter to ground. That, or you have a short from the positive cable somewhere before the fused circuits, as they would have given up before your cable. Check your connections again.

p.s. I always hook up the positive terminal first, then the ground. (supposed to prevent spark jump from the batt. terminal to the cable) but this is not your problem.
