bad misfire at low load

ok, not a lean map, plugs look the same with fuel adjusted.

so im thinking its either the timing belt jumped a tooth, which i will check but i have to get the car up in the air to turn it to TDC. jack is broke and didnt really fit under the car to begin with.

or i dont know. how do i check if the dizzy is fucked, it looked fine but that dosent really mean anything.

i also need to do a compression check.

anybody want to chime in??

thoughts would be great cause i have none of my own.

ok, i havent troubleshot this cuz im sick as ----.

car idles ok.

free revs fine.

minute i try and drive fucker starts shitting itself. i.e. misfire, drags ass hard getting up to revs then misfires more.

so i punched it. seems like it runs better in boost. but smells like a lean burn.

i think it has something electrical.

any ideas, i know im not providing much info, but im just laying in bed running it around in my head and had to put it out there.

hopefully i feel better tomorrow and can pull some plugs and run a comp test.

getting codes 9 and 14

cylinder sensor and eacv.

im thinking maybe the igniter in the dizzy??

i dont know its weird.

kinda sounds like oil in your distributor. pull the cap and look. also kinda sounds like oil around the plugs.

Could very well be the distributor, had an intermittant problem with my sister z6 distributor, ended up being the ------ ignitor. Just bought her a whole new distributor. Check for good spark out of each plug, adjustable spark testers work great. check your plug wires (DMM) for proper resistance. check fuel injectors, fuel pressure. Good luck

ok, pulled dizzy and plugs.

dizzy looks fine, found some small chunks of something in the cap and some loose strands of copper.

plugs look like it is burning lean.

goldish color on the electrode.

what do you think????

running lean? could this cause the car to falter like that?

i leaned the map out because it was running rich but i only leaned the vacuum region and only like 5 percent max

i mean it would make sense why it runs better in boost if i didnt adjust that.

gonna write-up a new basemap and try it.

any thoughts would be appreciated. will get back with results.

Get a vacuum gauge on engine, make sure that in spec.

You can test the distributor via the step in the service manual. Search in the hybrid forum i remember seeing a thread on how to test one.

Check the belt tensioner make sure the bolt hasnt back out. Check belt tightness then go on to check for skipped tooth once on lift.

Compression and leak down test will also help but a good vacuum test should pinpoint what area of the engine is the cause.

Get your codes sorted out, having all the electronic's working properly is a must when troubleshooting. Good Luck

download the helms manual. there are ohms checks in there

those don't always come up as faulty when in reality the part is bad. I'd to that, then swap it would with a known good one. I always swapped the guts with a friends car.
