bad idle

my car idles so badly lately the needle hits 0 rpms when im stopped at a light but the car doesnt die. it idle so low my headlights dim and when i press the gas they come back to life.

im guessing loose alternator belt, what do u guys think

oh ya and another thing, when i turn the key to start the car there is sometimes a 5 second delay. maybe this has something to do with it.

Could be a lot of stuff man, vacuum leaks, some electrical problems, doubt its ur belt. It can also be your tb or tps sensor. have u looked at all ur sensors?

Re:bad idle

Grounds? It's not your alternator belt, although that could be loose at the same time. Have you fucked with anything recently?

Re:bad idle

ok i tightened the belt but it didnt fix the problem

i think its the positive battery wire(red one)
its a bit corroded. ill sand it out tonight and see what happens

could also be a ground like u said. how many ground wires does a d16z6 have?

Re:bad idle

At least 2...one by the tranny coming from the battery, and one from the chassis to the motor up in the front as soon as you open your hood. I usually replace all of mine with some 4 guage stereo amp wire...seeing that i collect a ton of it from work for free ;D

Re:bad idle

last time when it happened to me i had spun all the bearing, oil in all cylinder, compression reads like 20 100 0 20 :-X :-\.....check yours.

Re:bad idle

last time i checked my compression it was at 150 closed throttle test and i burn a load of oil...wierd

anyways this is what i think the problem is and its sorta fixed for now

my throttle cable was loose so i tightened it but its very flexible and it has alot of give so i think if i can find another used good one and replace it should be fine

thx for the help

Re:bad idle

There should be some deflection in the throttle cable... I don't remember how much though. If it works... ???

Re:bad idle

mine did that when i swapped out the stock engine with another stock engine. i didnt have a timing light so i just guessed. it would idle rough and shut off sometimes. i bought a timing light and set i back to spec and now i have no rough idle and it doesnt turn off on its own ;D
