B20a5

As of late i learned that my first car is going to be a 1989 Honda Prelude and according to Onyx it has a "notorious" b20a5. So i told him, i dont care i am getting the car for 500 bucks from a friend. But then i was thinking that this car could be a project car (in the future)so i was wondering if that engine could be swapped out easily with another one. Only problem is.....which motor should i get to put in there?

Re:B20a5

swapped? yes...easily? no....

H22 swap will do that car good...

Re:B20a5

Re:B20a5

you just need a new motor to put in it? or you want more performace? if its the first you can get a B20A from an engine importer for cheap...

Re:B20a5

well according to onyx the engine has to long of a stroke and isnt goot for putting a turbo on. i just want to swap in a engine i can turbo and everything.

Re:B20a5

are the b20a mounts the same as other B series? if they are just swap a turbo LS in it and surprise the ---- out of everybody

Re:B20a5

b20a is the bastard step child of anything with the letter b in it.. nothing is similiar with our "regular" b series motors.

Re:B20a5

I once read an aritcle of your same situation , in the end it was said that the engine was gonna have everything custom made bla bla in the end they said slap a h22 in there . I do not think any other motor will just bolt in. Hoped i helped. :)

Re:B20a5

so basically i am stuck with that damn motor unless i do a swap and only an h22 would be worth it?

Re:B20a5

ok i am a crazy bastard but mayeb i could go with a small engine i mean it would be difficult if i cant mount it with existing stuff but i got two word for you custom fabrication. basically if you had to choose would you go with an h22 over the b20a5 or go with something else if i go with something smaller i will have to fabricate some sort of mounting system for the smaller engine.

Re:B20a5

there use to be this guy that claimed to have a B16 or a GSR motor in his Prelude...sure its possible...

damn place racing is gay, that website had been under construction for 2 years +...

turbo? of course you can turbo a B20A5...this guy has make kits in the past...even put a VTEC head on one...

Re:B20a5

My friend got his 89 prelude for 50 bucks. Defintely H22 over that b20a5. I would probably get easier car to work with from the start though. Maybe something with more product support?

Re:B20a5

I did a little research today and i found out the sizes of several engines (in standard).
H22a - 114 Cubic inches
B18c1 - 110 Cubic inches
B16a2 - 97 Cubic inches
B20a5 - 119 Cubic inches

Anyways, what i was proposing is either doing an engine swap or modifying what i have. Now the goal here is to turbo my car so i am debating in my car best intrest. According to Onyx the b20a5 has to long of a stroke (95mm to be exact). So since displacement depends on the bore of the cylinders and the stroke and well i cant really modify the size of the stroke i was thinking of getting the thing re-bored for larger cylinders. What do you guys think?

Re:B20a5

Just turbo it the way it is.. and if you blow it up put it something better, because those a5's are junk IMO. I honestly wouldnt rebuild it or anything like that.

Re:B20a5

oops the h22a is 132 Cubic inches

Re:B20a5

The B20 you have is not fuel injected or the car you have isnt?

if its carb'd you may want to start over from square 1. Lots of ---- needs to be done to convert to Fuel injection.
