b20 vtec redline

What can a b20 vtec rev to safely? I would think it could rev to 7200 but stock redline for a b20z is like 6700 and the other one is 6200. Is this the valve train redline or is it because of r/s?

if ur not boosting, and u get like arp rod bolts, get the crank balanced and all, shot peened rods, or forged internals then id say like 7500-8200 safly. stock with just a vtec head, i wouldnt take it past like 7300.

with my ls/vtec i have arp rod bolts, shot peened rods, balenced and bluprinted rotating assembaly, b16 pistons, knife eged crank, honda oem rings and barings. i take it to 8k all day long, but its not the best for it, it can take it but i dont like to, theres vtec, but with the loudness of a ls bottom end lol. so unless ur gona build rev low, its worth it to build it the first time. my shits goin out soon for gsr crank, gsr eagle rods and wiesco 9-5-1 turbo pistons. because who wants to stay all motor? BOOST ;) O0

just spin that bitch to 10 grand. :-*

on a more serious note, a guy I know spins his to about 9500rpm regularly. Hasn't seen problems yet but its gotta be a ticking time bomb.

Most people spin those motors pretty high.

I would say with a stock bottom end just a b16 or b18c1 head on it to rev it no higher than 8k, been haveing some probablems lately with guys spinning rod bearings and snapin rods with anything past 8.5k seems to really be the breaking point for safety.and I would definately not spin her to 9500 lol did that and blew her up in about ehh .5 secs on a missed shift rebuild went into 1st at 80mph and did it again lucky for me didn't have the stock rod bolts in it then some how held together. ya son anyways keep it reasonable and it should last you a long time
