B18b turbo smoking alot...
i have a b18b w/ 16g at 8psi....just the other day it started to smoke alot, there was no loud noise nothing outa the ordinary. thinking possibly valve seal because it hasent really lost anything in power
on the highway there is no smoke under cruising any gear, but after a shift and after decel (back on the throttle) i get major smoke drove it all day yesterday probably 35 miles and it only lost maybe 1/4 quart of oil any ideas? |
Re: B18b turbo smoking alot...
fucked turbO?

Re: B18b turbo smoking alot...
bad seal........but take your pick! ;D

Re: B18b turbo smoking alot...
valve guides are shot, if there feels lke no power lose then this is most likely ur problem

Re: B18b turbo smoking alot...
^ don't listen to this idiot.
Rebuild your turbo, seals are shot. |
Re: B18b turbo smoking alot...

Worn turbo thrust bearing can cause this as well, which would fall under the shitty seal catagory too. |
Re: B18b turbo smoking alot...
I love seeing good posts go bad! ;D I've had a valve seal leak before. I couldn't figure out why or where that bit of oil was going. Then when I ripped the motor out for a rebuild....I noticed there was oil in my 1st runner and a bit on the intake gasket. Sure enough...a head test showed a leak in the seal. I felt very minimal power loss. Just food for thought. But I think you shoudl check your turbo. They seem to blow before the valves do.

Re: B18b turbo smoking alot...
I would say it isnt a seal problem in the head since it would have smoked before. Adding boost might add to the wear a little bit, but not enough to make the motor take THIS much oil.
Take off the turbo and see if there is oil running out the exhaust side...I'm guessing that is what you will see. |
Re: B18b turbo smoking alot...
i ran the turbo with no filter today..and at work i saw there was oil slowly leaking out of the compressor inlet
the dumb ---- that welded my mani warped it so there was a small leak at the head, and now that its burnin oil theres a pretty good amount of oil on the front of the block seepin through there possibly too much oil pressure from ls block blowin oil past the seal? im using a stealthmode oil line kit |
Re: B18b turbo smoking alot...
You need to have an orifice in your turbo feed line to regulate pressure. Cruising on the highway at 3k gives me about 75-80 psi wich is way to much for that dsm turbo your using. I used somthing like this between the fitting on the back of my block and the fitting that goes into the stealthmode oil feed line. I started with a small hole and checked the turbo oil pressure with some cheap mech gauge and kept drilling it out further untill I reached what I wanted for my turbo oil pressure.
http://www.cajunshoppe.com/img/brawo.jpg This all brass fitting has a 1/8" MPT , with a drill #56 orifice, on one end that fits almost all cast iron burners. The other end is 1/4" FPT. F-RAWO.......$2.50......weight .1# |
