B18a-b18b

What has to be done to swap a b18b or b20 block to replace the b18a block in my ef. I know it will work im just wondering what kind of problems there are because of going from obd0 block to obd1 ???

I figured that the b20 would need a different map, I know the cams and rev limit is different on that motor versus the b18b1 (even tho the head is the same).

Remember this swap is only to get the car working so it can be sold, not something to prep for turbo.

are you talking about the whole engine or using your current head on a new block? if that's the case, nothing really, just swap it, you only have, the the only difference in the b18a and b18b block (that i noticed when i swapped mine) was a coolant fan switch sensor next to the oil sending unit, and the crank pulley's are different styles. just swap your old crank pulley on to the new block and take the sensor out of the old block and screw it in to the new block (there's a already a plug for it).

then it will bolt right up, you may have to use the driver side engine mount off of the old block on to the new block, they have a little different offset.

to the best of my knowledge, it's exactly the same as the b18b

yeah the head is exactly the same. The cams are different and the rev limit isn't as high. I figured a new map for his OBD0 ecu.. it's still in the air for Phil, he will get back to us later today on it.

i know the differences between the two, i was saying, as far as i know, the installation of just the block is the same as the b18b.
