okay the different is 10hp ....thas not that big of a difference for less money, right? but i'm hearing that obd0 LS's suck, so is it worth it to pay more money and buy the b18b?thanz

Re:b18a or b

it depends, what car is it going into? obd0, 1, or 2? i dont think there is a big difference in the motors to say that one is way less efficient than the other. b18b obviously is a bit better but nothing eratic...

Re:b18a or b

going into obd0(crx hf 89), and i was planning on putting a gsr tranny on it, soo that would mostlikey be hydrolic? soo just guessing but wouldn't it be easier to install a hydrolic tranny on a b18b?thanz

Re:b18a or b

its all the same...the b is just newer...mostlikly less miles...but then again..i've seen lower on some a's. all the b trans are interchangable...but the only diff. is the hydro or cable. if its going into a cable hf..you might want to go with a cable trans...just to save from converting to a hydro system.

Re:b18a or b

but the only gsr cable tranny is the 93 which is really rare, en i'm too layz to look for one.

Re:b18a or b

how much cheaper is the a??
Well put the hydro in than and do the conversion.
I would just get the engine that is better maintained and has lower miles, if the price is right.
But it all depends on the price difference

you can use any b series tranny from any year, it doesn't have to be the same year as the engine, therefore, any hydro tranny from any year would work. and the "b" isn't 10 extra hp, it's only like 5, i had an "a" and swapped it for a "b", and the "b" is more responsive in my opinion, due to shorter fatter runners on the intake mani, and i've heard the cams are a little different, other than that, they are the same exact engine, but yes, you'll more than likely find less miles on a b18b, and you can usually find them for the same price. i paid 500 bucks for a 97 b18b complete longblock. just my .02

Re:b18a or b

car = obd0

get a b18b long block.

swap dizzy and intake manifold with that of a b18a.

sell the b18b dizzy and manifold.

use obd0 LS ecu.. (pr4??) done, low milage b18b/a

Re:b18a or b

i don't know too much about obd0 sensors, but i would try to use the b18b intake mani, because it is better than the b18a :-\

Re:b18a or b

we were saying that if i got a cable tranny and got a b18a then i wouldn't have to worry about swaping a hydrolic clutch, and the reason tat would be hard is because i only want a gsr or a b16 tranny and the gsr tranny is hard to find in cable, it only comes in 93 and that is very rare to find. and i live in cali en i want to get this engine smogged, soo get a b18a(if i can find a vtec tranny) and put the b18b mani on there?

o.k., i thought you wanted any hydrolic tranny. the b18a/b has a very good transmission (ys1) why wouldn't you want to use that? i don't know about cali's smog laws, but what difference would it make if you got a b18b? you said "get a b18a and pu the b18b mani on there?" why wouldn't you want the b18b? it would more than likely have less miles. i thought you could put newer engines in just not older engines in cali??

Re:b18a or b

ya forget i said n e thing about smog...cuz i jez typed that sentence randomly on accident and basiclly comes down to could u get a b18b for the same price as a b18a? because i was thinking the b18a would be cheaper and their saying the only difference is the intake mani on the b is better, so i would put that on my a. and i'm not going turbo soo the LS gears are too tall...i want some shorter gearing.
