B18 or H22???
Ive started gathering parts for my next build and was pretty set on going with a B18. For some reason today i started thinking that it might be worth it to go with an H22. Either motor would be fully built. I am having a tough time deciding what the best route would be.
H22 would be more of a pain to swap but the torque and less peaky characteristics would be nice. It sucks because i have already picked up a block, crank, and head for a b series. I could always sell them though.
Somebody sway my decision. I am looking for about 400 hp on pump gas.
Also, how does the H22 Type S tranny compare to an ITR/B16 tranny?

Re: B18 or H22???
I have a H22A Eg and I must agree with you on the torque and responsiveness. But you can build a B series for much less for your 400hp mark. I blew up my H22A and I became a EBAY ----- and scouting for deals on it. I picked up my full forged bottom end for around $400, thats with Ross 88mm 9:1 pistons, Eagle H beams. Then another $500 for Ferrera valves, skunk2 springs and retainers. Then $400 for LA Sleeve Pro sleeves straight from them. Then had it all machined, installed, balanced and blueprinted, for another $700. But this didnt include the original price of $2800 for the motor with a M2B4 LSD tans, $1300 for driveshaftshop stage 3's, motor mounts $400, then taking the poly inserts out and haveing them remade out of chromoly steel for solid mounts $150, then new wheelbearing along with the stage 3 hubs installed $200 or $150 for an arbor press and do it your self. Then the headache of trying to wire the ECU your self or going with the $300 HASPORT EGH2 harness. Then a standalone my choice of a Hondata S300 $500 and $200 for a P72 obd1 ecu. It's alot of money but at this point when I get B's next to me and they have to rev the shitout of to get off the line and stay running, I would not give it up for anything. Also did I mention that I run a GT35R. Just have to worry about axles breaking, balding tires, and remember it wont handle like it did before in the twisties. Also Progress H22A civic springs $300. Fall back on a H22A trans is that it's syncros and gears are weak. B series engineers definately gave more attention to the strength roded slushbox. STAY WITH THE B. My next build will be either a B20 or a K20head/K24 TSX bottom end but in a different car.
