B18 engine gurgle??? VIDEO
Setup:
b18a1 built engine-
obd1 b18 dizzy
d16z6 harness
p28 chipped ecu
Engine idles PERFECT... car runs great on 450cc's
running safe on 9lbs right now... but after 4500rpm... it gets this REALLY weird gurgle sound... It almost turns into a subaru.
My butt dyno says it could be faster... but i dont think it's detonating. Dizzy is all the way retarded... and according to the timing light, it's still slightly advanced. (its an 1/8th inch from the tdc mark)
Well... just take a listen to the video:

They have a tendency to loosen up after the first few runs as everything breaks in again. If anything (if I heard the correct sound) it almost sounds like valve float, but at such a low rpm I can't see why.
The video makes it sound like a semi sort of open dump, maybe your wastegate piping has leaks, you wouldn't know about at idle.

Re: B18 engine gurgle??? VIDEO
I do have an open dump tube setup on it.
And yes, i also have a small exhaust leak between the downpipe and test pipe. It goes from 3" to 2.25" pipe, but the flanges are almost the same size.
It idles PERFECTLY... And i've checked the timing belt 100 times... i'm 99% sure the timing belt is perfect.
So, on the crank pulley, is where the timing marks are.. There are two marks that i can see... A red one, and a white one. Red one is more towards the front of the car. (when viewing from the top of course)
Timing needs to be lined up with the white, correct? (it's what i've done on every other engine)
BUT... here is one peculiar thing. When i had the timing light on it, i couldn't get that white mark to line up perfectly!!!
I turned the dizzy all the way retarded, and the white mark was still about two widths of the mark away... if that makes any sense. VERY VERY CLOSE... but still slightly off...
Its the B18a1, and from what i've found out... the dizzy i have is NOT from a B18a1... its from possibly a B18b, or other b18 obd1 engine.
The engine doesn't fall on its face at all... it just doesn't seem as powerful as it should.
As far as the head goes... it's stock, and only had about 80k miles on it when i got it... I didnt need to adjust any of the valves before hand, because after i checked them w/ the feeler guage, they were all in spec.
And valve float @ 4500-6000 rpms?? is that possible?
hmm~
Well after reading what i just wrote, anymore comments?
