B16's blowing #3 piston under boost.

I've heard from a bunch of different people about this happening to them. Is it a common occurence with stock internals?

well you gotta think smart when boosting your stock motor. if you have a very good tune and dont go over board on trying to make power, then it should hold up for a good while..
but if the motor is half in the bag allready and say your running an FMU and like 15 pounds then of course its gonna happen.

just be smart about it and it will last a very good amount of time :)

If your name is dave lee it would be a problem..

Just dont boost the living ---- out of it, and have a decent tune you'll be fine.

keep it under 10 psi nd u'll prolly be goo on a good tune

number 3 is usually the hottest running cylinder in the engine, at least in an i-4

wonder if we can get a JD physics explanation on that

Re: B16's blowing #3 piston under boost.

'cause #3 has a hard on for boost.
#3 always showed a c-hair leaner on the plugs w/ my B16.

If your boosting a bone stock B16, it will live forever on 10lbs w/ your average joe T3 or a some form of t3/04. As long as its fueled correctly and has an appropriate timing map.
If you ever want a good base timing map for your engine, PM me. Ive got B16 timing down ;)

Cool coolant flows from the water pump from cyl 1 to 4.

Cyl 4 can bleed off some heat into the trans bellhousing, and it isn't "surrounded" like cyls 2 and 3.

That leaves two cyls getting thermally "surrounded," one of which gets cooler coolant. #3 gets baked.

Also, with stock configuration IMs, cyls 3 and 4 get overfed buy dense (boost) intake charge.
