b16a2 low budget build up

Picked up a b16a2 for $600 about a week ago. The girl I got it from hydrolocked it and blew a rod. That's it, so over all, that wasnt a bad price. Anyway, never having a b16 before, but having read many posts, the b16 doesn't have any torque. Before I take the engine into the shop and have it cleaned up, is there anything I can do besides having it ported and polished to add some umph to it without spending an arm and a leg?

that's what happened to mine when i hydrolocked it, if so, how you gonna work around the hole in the block? what do you mean "get it cleaned up"? are you getting the internals replaced? if so, and you don't have enough loot for boost, just get some higher compression pistons.

No, didn't go though the block, just twisted a rod and snapped it. The only thing that happend other than that was that the "buffle plate" (Helms manual) had a little grinding on it from the bottom half the the rod. Cylinder is fine, and the head is fine.
