b16a1 or b18b tb?
Hey guys,
I have a 1st gen b16 tb and a tb from my 98 ls.. are they the same, if not, which one is better? The b16 tb has an extra diafram on it, looks like it's hooked up to full throttle or something, it connects to the thing the throttle cable to attached to. My LS tb doesn't have it.. i'm doing ls/vtec with my 98 b18b block and 1st gen b16 head, just wondering which tb is best. Stan |
Re:b16a1 or b18b tb?
it is just the dashpot, i took mine off of my LS and there is no difference

Re:b16a1 or b18b tb?
98 ls is 2 mm bigger

Re:b16a1 or b18b tb?
Thanks Chris. I guess i'll use the LS tb. It must be 60mm?
Stan PS: what does that "dashpot" thing do and why isn't there one on my LS tb? |
Re:b16a1 or b18b tb?
yup 60 that dashpot thang is for helping w/cold idle I believe

Re:b16a1 or b18b tb?
i htought it was so your revs didnt drop too fast, either way there i noticed no difference without it

Re:b16a1 or b18b tb?
the dashpot is used to stabilize the idle when going from open throttle to closed throttle. it will keep the butterfly slightly open for a moment to let the motor drop it's rpm closer to the idle rpm. I ripped it off, no big difference.
