Re:b16a help
blown head gasket? find where its leaking from... could be just a bad hose clamp... could be a serious issue
|
Re:b16a help
look at the crossmembers of your rad support area. If the RAD leaks then it pools there and you wont see alot of it on the ground. That, and if you see smoke coming from the engine bay its leaking around the rad and then evaporating because of the heat. If you don't see it there check your tail pipe. After the car is warm there shouldn't be any smoke coming from it. If you see white smoke then you are burning coolant. ALso, look for moisture around the tip of the exhaust.

Re:b16a help
well the leak is comming from where my rad is but its not cracked on the top and its not my overflow bottle could it possibly be from like air in the lines or something? i dunno
|
Re:b16a help
I'd be willing to bet that your rad. has a leak somewhere around the bottom of the unit. Try pulling off your front clip to see, or you could just get a flashlight and check all the way down the surface of the rad. If you really want to get crafty, and you don't care about dirt...sprinkle some find dirt all the way down the back of the radiator, and then look to see where it sticks. It should be pretty obvious.

Re:b16a help
check around your hoses too. If its a manual car. there should be like 2 hoses only on it and one for the overflow, just take the damn thing out, its not that hard and see where it leaks. BUt check for leaks around the hoses aswell.. Make sure the clamps are tight.

Re:b16a help
ok it turns out its not my rad im leaking fluid between my tranny and block on the bottem is there any 'quick fix" or will i have it take it all apart again??
|
Re:b16a help
and you thought it was coolant! what do u have in that tranny! :) ya, replace the gasket.
|
Re:b16a help
replace the head gasket? if you are leaking fluid between the tranny and block, its more than likly a rear main seal, you need to remove the tranny, remove the flywheel and replace the seal, Or it could be possibly the oil pan seal.

Re:b16a help
i never said head gasket! lol i just couldnt remember the name "rear main seal" he knew what i meant though!

Re:b16a help
ok today i located the leak ive got a y21 (gsr) tranny and the leak is comming from the passenger side there is like a bolt the size of a quarter but is isnt a bolt its more like a plug and i tightened it but its still leaking it has to be turned with a square key.... anyone know what this is??? can anyone reccomend a sealent for it
thanks |
Re:b16a help
That "Square key" is your tranny oil drain, Sounds like the crush washer is bad, go to your local dealer and ask them for a tranny oil drain washer, you will have to drain/fill your trans fluid, but its more than likly what is leaking. (that square key, is also 3/8th drive)
Jeff |
Re:b16a help
so i can just get the tranny oil drain washer and put it around the plug????.......can i just put it on or will i have to drain and fill the tranny fluid?>??...what is crush water????
thanks a lot |
Re:b16a help
sorry i guess the crush WASHER is what i have thats leaking
|
Re:b16a help
the acura dealership parts department recomended some
|
Re:b16a help
sorry,...the dealership recomended some "HONDABOND" anyone ever heard of it .....think it will do the trick..they said that its not the tranny oil drain the said it doesnt even serve a purpose....i unscrewed it and its just a plug some white thick fluid drained out, not much at all mabye 2 ounces and then it stopped..its located directly down from the motor mount on the pasenger side any help would be great thanks
|
Re:b16a help
What else would it be dude? all B/D - series trannys have a 3/8th square drain plug on the bottom of the transmissions. with a crush washer, if you pulled it out, and nothing came out, you have some serious issues. You need to drain it completely and refill it (with MTF or 10-30). Throw a new crush washer/gasket after you replace the fluid.
If you think the fluid is leaking between the 2 cases, you will need to remove the trans and split the case, and use honda bond to seal it up. (very unlikly) Jeff |
Re:b16a help
its on the side of the transmission right in front of my axle and there it no washer
its just a brass plug...where do i check for tranny fluid on a gsr tranny?? |
Re:b16a help
wait wait, there was white fluid mixed with your oil in the tranny? that is water in your tranny if it happened that way.
|
Re:b16a help
You are looking at the wrong end of the tranny, that is to gain access to the sea-clip that holds the upper case in order. If its leaking on that end, it could easily be an tranny axle seal.
Jeff |
Re:b16a help
what does the tranny axle seal do ?? beacuse on my axle right behind it there is a black grease that it spitting a little out (the boot on the axle???) would that have anything to do with it??
|
Re:b16a help
That seal is so no fluid can leak out of the case between the axle and tranny.
If you are spitting "Greese" that would be a CV problem, (different) Replaced the Boost or clamps if you have a tear. Jeff |
Re:b16a help
either take ur car to a shop and most places will replace the boot alone for 70 to 90 bucks...or you can take off the whole axle....buy a remanufactured axles and give them your old one for like 60 bucks and up...depending on brand u buy...
|
Re:b16a help
well i put the hondabond around it and it stopped the leak.....what is the sea-clip?
|
Re:b16a help
a sea clip is a metal ring that goes around the end of the axle joint, that hold the axle inside of the tranny.
Jeff |
Re:b16a help
yeah, and your fucked when the son of a bitch piece of ---- ---- juice suckin ball cheez eatin ass hole lickin piece of placenta gets stuck in the tranny (make sure the clip isn't too big before you install the axle)
