B16 waterpump problems! HELP!
 

well, i bought a new waterpump for my b16a swap in my crx. i bought it for the 94' del sol vtec. i take everything off and then i realize the del vtec one isnt the right one, i was shocked cuz hasport says it is. so i call up the shop that did my swap and i asked them what was up. they said it matters what year your b16 is. if the delsol vtec one isnt right, then you have to buy one for a GS-R. now if this is true.....what year gs-r do i buy it for? 92-94? thanks for any info!

yea the housing is different...but i went and got a gs-r one...and it worked. am i the first one that has had to do this????

hey i had the same problem with mines. i bought it for a delsol vtec but it didnt fit either( and the engine is a obd1 b16). but when i went to advance autoparts. they looked it up on the computer and give found the part for me. even showed me the picture so i would know if its the right one.. autozone. didnt have the right one..so i suggest going to advance autoparts.

I used a 99-00 Si water pump and it worked fine.

Hrm.. Maybe when they thought you said "VTec" they meant the SOHC VTec.. which, of course, is also 1.6 litres. This is a normal conversation with an Auto PArts store..

"I need a water pump for my 88-91 Civic.."
"Uh, but which year?"
"Uh.. hrm, lets choose 91.."
"1.5 or 1.6"
"1.6"
"Yep, we've got it in stock and it's over priced as usual, will that be cash check or charge?"

I'm sure they thought it was the SOHC VTec instead of the mighty B.

Not that they would know what a B series is over a D series anyway. I can't stand talking to auto parts stores.

But if he called the parts store and said I need a water pump for a 94 del sol vtec, they easily could have gave him one for the d16z6.. not the b16a.

I ran into the exact same problem. I thougt the Delsol VTEC pump was the right one, but itwas different because my B16A is a 1million series that came from a JDM 90-93 Integra XS-i. If you had a 5 million series B16a (comes from a JDM 88-91 CRX Si-R) Then your pump would have worked. I found that either a b18a pump or a mump for a B17A (92-93 intergra GS-R) will work. Glad i could help. Ps, if you need to know what series your engine is look at the casting serial# under where it says B16a on the block, if it starts with a "1" it is 1 millon series,if it starts witha "5" it is a 5 million series

if u were mechanically incline enough to do a mini me swap you;d know which water pump to ask for when getting a new one, wouldnt you :) say, a 92-95 civic ex? hrmm.. why would you tell him a 1.6 91 Si CRX??? thats just setting yourself up for the wrong pump. Lie damn it, say i have a 93 civic EX!! then u get the right pump for a mini me swap no?

thats true i mostly get parts for my b16a1 ither asking for a 99 civic si, and or b18a i have never asked for the del sol but i have never ran into problems with anything most b18a and integra type r motor parts will fit a b16. mostly 90-93 though i think the year continues though.
