Default B16 Vs. ZC

Hi everyone i'm brand new here. I wanted to start with your opinions on which engine to use for a start. Whichever engine is decided upon i will purchase a car with that engine in already over here although i think we only got the d16a6 and the b16a1? (i'm in the uk). And once this is decided upon i would like to do a scrapyard turbo setup but have no idea what car to pull one off...i heard a volvo turbo will work if i can find one...Cheers

J

BTW. The above mssg is for a 4g civic

Thats all i needed to hear on the engine choice someone with first hand on the both, now once b16 is aquired do you know what uk cars there is i could get a turbo from to start the scrapyard turbo? also will i need an intercooler and if so does anyone know if a intercooler with there dimentions would be enough? Core Dimensions as follows. Length 325 mm Height 100 mm Depth 85 mm I/O Pipe diameter 55 mm. What do you reckon?

No offense but ZC's suck! You basically have an LS motor with less *****. Yes they are cheaper but usually have plenty miles on them. About 2 years ago they were very popular and that was THE engine to use since everyone was using them. Then people started venturing into Bseries land and once you go to the dark side you'll never go back.

If you don't have the money for a Bseries and won't have the money anytime soon...then go with the ZC. You will probably run high 15 et's. For many it's a choice between ZC+turbo or just B16 NA. If you only have enough for ZCturbo then do it. But I would rather see a fully built MiniMe Turboed.

The ultimate is Bseries+turbo. Save the money and do it right the first time.

B-SERIES FOR LIFE!!!!

B16 = New Tranny, Mounts, ECU, Etc. = $1600+
ZC = Motor + Tranny + Ecu = under $800
B16 = 2 ZC Swaps

ZC's get a lot of heat cus 99% of people that put them in don't do them right. If u lack one of the top 3 items, ur zc will suck. Get everything and give it a good tuneup, and u'll be hand'n dick out to most every other honda out there. You'll be in mid 14's with ZC+bolt ons in a CRX, same as most thrown together B16's I've seen. As far as boost, the right turbo/parts combination give u a better advantage than the motor you start with (Especially with both motors being 1.6L)

to sum it up.... ZC = budget

In the UK you also get the D16A9 the DOHC ZC not onlye the A6. And all the CRX's comes with the DOHC ZC from 88 and up, but the B16A's come in 90 up CRX's.
I have a ZC right now...and to me it isn't that fast it runs stock low 15's..I've seen someone run a 15 flat..good driver I guess and good maintanance, with a Turbo the ZC is a lot of fun and faster than a stock B16, but put a bit off shot of nos on the B16 or a turbo and bye bye ZC.If you have the money I would get the CRX with the B16...it's most likely double to tripple the price of a perfect CRX ZC, but you will start off with a lot more power and driving fun.If I had the money I would go with e B16 CRX, but I don't have that kind of money and insurance for the CRX with B16 is double as the one for the ZC...so more expenses. And a turbo for a B16..I wouldn't put a scrapyard turbo on it unless it's the Big T3's that come off the Thunderbird's. For the B16 You need a much bigger turbo than you normally find in the scrapyard.
Conclusion..You got some serious $$$ go with the B16 if you don't..don't get yourself to deep into debt and go with the ZC afterwards you can always swap the B16 in....in Europe an UK you can just drop it in cause most likely you'll get the stock B16 mounts for the CRX and they fit perfectly.
