b16 running bad

So Im driving down the road the other day just cruising at about 50mph and all the sudden it feels like Im running on 3 cylinders or something and my car starts sounding like a harley. Immediately I assume the worst so I pull off pop the heep cheack for milky oil or smoke of any kind and cant find anything so I start thinking maybe I have a stuck open or clogged injector. Nope their all pulsing just fine. pull the plugs, they look perfect. I go to start the car back up and it runs just fine. After driving it again for about 5 minutes it starts running like crap again. I cant figure out what this is. Fyi Its an odb2 2000 si and its turbo running on crome. Any ideas?

Did you compression test it yet?

No but why would it come and go if I didnt have compression in one or more cylinders? It completely clears up and runs perfect half of the time so theres no way Im losing compression it has to be something fuel or spark related.

What rpm does it start shitting out at?

Do a check to the coil, I had a similar problem to this turned out to be the igniter/coil.

Sometimes it does it on start up, sometimes at other various engine speeds/loads, it doesnt seem to make a difference. I think it has to be something wrong with the distributor.

That def sounds like a coil problem, if it's not making charge fast enough you'll get poor combustion.

Google for "coil resistance honda" and look how to check if it's bad, I forget what the value is but it'll be on the interwebs.

Could also possibly be a weak hall effect sensor, just speculation as the coil will usually go before those do.

i had a kinda similar problem. if i stayed at say cruising speed on the highway it was fine, then as soon as a gave it gas it would act up... run real slow and act like it was on 3 cylinders.

it was bad distributer. i changed the cap and rotor and it worked for a little while... but after a couple months i had to replace the whole thing.

ignitor is my guess

dizzy would be my first guess...but i actually had a bad map sensor connection that did the same thing (bad solder join that didnt always make contact)

Problem solved! Injector took a crap. I thought they were all pulsing normally but my I went to my buddy's house (philstubbs a.k.a. Evans Performance) and he said it sounding like one of the injectors was pulsing differently than the others. Unplugged the clip from the suspicious injector while the motor was running and got absolutely no change in the way it ran. End up throwing some 240's back in and change the map and it runs perfect. Btw, these were tuner toys injectors and Craig is hooking me up with a very nice fix for the situation. I cant say enough about tuner toys. Absolutely a stand up company that I recommend everyone support. I wish more companies were willing to help out and go above and beyond to keep their customers happy and that is why I will always support tuner toys.
