b16 or LS trans for turbo ls/vtec
I have a 92 teg that came with a b16 swap as an extra. I fixed the stock b18 and threw an hx-35 on. I always believed the 'vtec is just unnecessary extra cost and moving parts just go with cams in an ls' motto, and that with turbo the b16 trans will be too short gearing and lots of tire spin.
This thread finally convinced me to go with the b16 head, I mean I already have the damn thing.
So what's the general concensus on the trans? My stocker has 186k and a couple high rpm grinds going into 3rd. I looked at the b16 when I was throwing it in and EVERYTHING looks pristine, inside the valve cover and oil pan. ---- the fork for the throw out bearing had no wear compared to my ls trans. But I have no clue about it's history and have never had it in a car. I never thought about using the b16 until i offered to sell it to someone and I'm making sure I'm not making a big mistake. The car is my daily driver right now when it's working and I can only drive one car for legal issuse, so gas mileage is a concern. But I enjoy taking it to the local legal street races and thinking about taking it to the track more often once I put my pistons and rods in and get it tuned.
Am I right about leaning to keep the ls?
cliffs:
b16 head, ls block with rods and pistons: which tranny
unknown condition b16 or stock ls?
thanks guys
