B16 head or GSR head on "built" Gsr Block?
As topic states. I recently picked up a GSR motor with CP 9.0:1's and Eagle H-Beams with stock GSR head and AEBS intake manifold, in a trade. Before this, I was piecing together and LS Vtec setup, so I also have an obd1 b16 head sitting here. I want to pull the head on the GSR block and make sure the block actually has said internals, and also to install ARP headstuds for added security. Would it be worth it to throw on the b16 head with the GSR cams upon reassembly, or am i better off leaving the setup as is. The motor has only been started 3 times by the previous owner, so I still have to break it in and whatnot also. Just am unsure if its worth it to pull it apart and add the headstuds and b16 head, or even to pull it apart at all. Any advice is appreciated. Motor is sitting in my room waiting to go into the crx shell so access to it is no issue. Thanks!

Pull the plugs on that bitch, if its only been started 3 times, you should still be able to see the shiny forgings hiding inside, if so equipped.
B18c head vs. B16 head= b18c only because of combustion chamber quench areas. I could be wrong about this but anyway... Give me your left over ----, you know you want to. |

Re: B16 head or GSR head on "built" Gsr Block?
I'm not selling the CP's, I'm selling a different set of JE slugs that I had also got when trying to peice together the LS/V-TecH. Yea I knew about the better quench with the GSR head, just wasnt sure if the supposed better flow of the b16 head was worth it over the GSR. Pulled the plugs, it does indeed look nice and shiny down there. I think I'll just throw it in as is and if anything happens I'll tear it down. No point in tearing down an engine that could run just fine as is. Thanks for the input nogs

Re: B16 head or GSR head on "built" Gsr Block?
I have a buddy that did a set up like that using built b18c1 bottom (.25 over CTR pistons and ITR rods) and port polish B16 head w/CTR Cams, using hondata ecu redline at 9,400 rpm and he ran mid 12's in a 92 Dx hatch. Using nitrous (65 shot wet single fogger) he ran low 12's with a set 15" M/T slicks on GSR rims. Could of ran better with bogarts rims and bigger slicks.

b18c1 is gsr head and no that is different casting from b16. it is its own casting. but b18c5 type r head is a b16 casting with p and p and valvetrain work from factory
