ARP stud install

On a JDM H22A when instaling the ARP head studs do they need to be torked or do i need to use the loc-tite? I know when i bolt the head down it needs to be torked but the studs in the block need to be hand tight with loc-tite correct?

Re:ARP stud install

You are supposed to use the supplied ARP lube and yes they need to be torqued down. You also want to torque them down in sequence, for example I torqued mine down to 25, 45, and then 65. You start in the middle and go out doing a zig zag pattern.

the reason i ask is because on the ARP websight it says use the arp loc-tite but only do them hand tight cause it hits the waterjacket or something. i know about the torking in the sequence.. i just never dealt with arp studs befor

I thought that ---- was more of a lubricant/anti-corosion compound than a loctite type thing. I woudln't put loctite on them. Make sure the threads are clean and free of any ---- before you put them in.

I just lubed then up good with the ARP ---- and put them in hand tight. I used an allen wrench to make sure they were all the way down and then back them out 1/2 a turn so they weren't touching the bottom. I stuck my head gasket on and put the head on, then lubed the top of the studs and torqued everyting down.

They recommmend Loctite for wet head studs. I don't beleive Honda has them. ???

Since most studs extend into the water jacket, coat threads with ARP thread sealer and screw in hand tight ONLY

Re:ARP stud install

you hand tight the the studs with the arp lube into the block... its supposed to be 1/2 turn after it gets hard to turn...

then you torque the nuts of course with the head on... the instructions with the studs should tell you the torque specs... do not torque them down like your bolts lol!
