Your talking about the rubber seal that goes around the crankshaft right? (the rear main seal...) When ever I do these I use a small thin screwdriver and tap around the seal at an angle until you can work it out. Don't scratch up the crank though!!! Then when your going to put the new seal back in, make sure you have the correct side facing out,and put a little grease around the inside of the seal and use a big socket or punch to tap it in evenly. Make sure you get the seal to sit where it should. These things can leak real easy if it's not in right, and it's a bitch to take everything back out just to change the seal again... Just make sure you take note which side was facing out and which side was in. The part with the spring should be facing in I beleive. Good Luck

Lol, yeah they can get a little chewed up, but just make sure it's the same seal. I'd hate to see you have to change it again because it leaks or something. :'(

getting them out is easy, getting them back in and to seat properly is a bitch, just make sure its going in straight and use a big socket to tap it in.

a big socket? lol, I'd like to see a socket big enough to fit a rear main seal (normally use a 3/8 extension as a punch, or a big seal driver).. lol, think your thinking of front crank seals, or tranny output seals shortyz.

Be sure to clean the varnish off the crankshaft..
