Any tips for head gasket install?

I'll be putting my engine back together tomorrow. I had to pull the head on a 93 civic ex that I recently bought because someone broke the #1 spark plug off in the cylinder. The head has already been reworked at the machine shop. I have my upper gasket set and my new timing belt. Does anyone have any tips for me? I have my Haynes manual handy and I'm ready to get my hands greasy on it. Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

If you're gonna be working with a clean head and block, it should be pretty easy. Maybe use some copper spray on it. I always like to torque the head bolts a couple more pounds than it says to, but don't tell anyone. ;)

repacing a head gasket is pretty straight forward. Be sure to get a NEW head gasket and I sudgest NEW head bolts. ARP makes good ones ypu can reuse because they dopnt streach. Make sure both surfaces are realy clean.. Clean them with Alcahol(so nothing is left like greasy cleaner or what ever)
be sure that the douel pins are in the correct spots. if you use arp bolts use ARP LUBE on the threads, also be sure the threads and holes are realy clean. use an allen wrench to tighten them in but dont torque them.. just make them snug and be sure the bolts are all in there the same amount. take a level and put it on top of the studs once yuo have them in there should be no gaps and all the studs should contact the level. after that get help and drop the head on and then torqe the nuts in steps do the entire pattern torquing them to half what the total value is then torqu them full value.. loosten them up and then torqe them again. make sure the head gasket is right side up.

Ok all that is prolly confusing... but if you need help send me a message.. i have picts of my head install ill show ya...
