advice building a d block
im considering finding a spare d16 block to attempt my first build, my mechnical experince is not alot compared to most of you, few turbo kit installs, clutch, t-belts stuff like that just a little more then basic manitence, how hard is it to assemble a complete block?
ive had a couple boosted d16s and there fun but id like somthing i could make a little more power and give a good beating everyday without worry, maybe 250whp . it would be somthing to work on untill spring then i could replace my stock d16z6 block
how much should i expect to spend on parts? whats the best bang for the buck? what all would i even need to do/upgrade? i dont know much i never been that far into a motor really, im guessing rods, pistons and new gaskets and a good head gasket and head studs?
would i want to stick with the z6 block or is there a better one?

I'm in the same boat as you, in experience. I've done a bit of research on rebuilding and have completely disabled short block, but have yet to actually rebuild a block. There's a really good article, called the definitive GSR build thread or something like that on evans-tuning.com. that put it in perspective and didn't make it seem to impossible. The only thing I see as a problem is measuring the bore and use of a cheap digital caliper is fine to measure the crank, pistons etc. I suppose if you were to have it bored over with spec of the piston to wall clearances and pistons you will be using you should be money. but actually measuring the bore to see if it needs it though. I guessing a good idea anyway.
yea i was on the same boat about a month ago bought a set of vetara's moly rings head gasket main bearings rod bearings pins and locks and other gaskets. for $230 wicked value suposed to hold up to 300 hp. but then i got even more boost hungry and went ***** out baught sleeve's, srp pistons, jm rings, eagle rods skunk 2 valve package , and colt cams is regrinding my cam for me. so after some extensive head work hopefully going to hit the 400hp mark. but vetara's for sure under 300hp
