a6/zc pistons in d15 block
want to know if piston domes will work with out colliding with head

Re: a6/zc pistons in d15 block
please give imput

Re: a6/zc pistons in d15 block
since the pistons are shorter, they won't hit.
ZC pistons in a D15 only bump the comression .2, better off to shave the head .040" and run stock PM3 pistons. This assumes normal 134mm D15 rods. |
Re: a6/zc pistons in d15 block
is it possible to run the dohc zc pistons ?

i know that works i'm talking about a d15 with dohc zc pistons and a z6 head |

i thought the wrist pin location was different on the d15 than the d16's |

207mm vs. 212mm My first post stands as truth, do the research, do the math. Just remember, I'm building a D15 with the longer 137 mm rods and P29's, 13.7:1 compression They stick up a little, .052" with the extra 3mm (.118") rod length. on stock rods they'd be .066", about 1.7mm below deck. Re: a6/zc pistons in d15 block
you guys want compression kids with the d15. welded chambers.

Re: a6/zc pistons in d15 block
isnt the dohc zc block the same as the single cam for the most part? except the gead stud holes right?

Re: a6/zc pistons in d15 block
Yes you can run d16a1 or zc pistons in a d15 with no issues, a couple of my friends and I used to run a couple motors like that years ago. I've also run regular flat-top d15 pistons in a d16a6 block on stock a6 rods and a welded up z6 head. Only slight issue I ran into with that one was I had to round off the edges of the piston to get it to seat correctly into the head, seeing that the actual piston itself sat above the deck by quite a few thousandths.

Re: a6/zc pistons in d15 block
didn't I say you can run the pistons in my first post?
not worth .2 gain in compression......but you can run them. |

in the hole is going to run like a slug
no bueno |

It's a really tight fit with the P29's once you factor in rod stretch. I've had ALOT of help from Tony Bischoff @ BES, you might have heard of them. They have one the Jeg's Enginemasters buildoff the past two years. HAd to go over mass vs. rpms and piston speed to gauge rod stretch. Even one Z1 rod was "tested" for stretch and came in UNDER his predictions, which means a little extra safety. 2006 winners.......by one point over Jon Kasse http://www.besracing.com/jegsengine.html 2007 winner by 5 points over Jon Kasse |
Re: a6/zc pistons in d15 block
You guys are approaching this wrong. A welded chamber head will give you all the compression you need for a street build and wow its easy and cheap. Ive run them. Mr Frank and the wheeze ran one.
Bone is doing stuff that is very involved and above what most want to do for a D. |
Re: a6/zc pistons in d15 block
how much to weld 4 chambers, the have machined?
Your looking at $500 into it alone assuming proer heating of the head casting before welding them up, the machine flat, then cc and other clean up machining. I'm still under $200 so far on this build using OEM parts without any fancy machine work. Goal is to unseat "da wheeze" Think how the old hot rodders did it, I'm doing the same thing. "The World's Fastest Indian" should give you an idea on my mindset. |
Re: a6/zc pistons in d15 block
so can they be instaled without
mod to domes |
