A6 head. Cam worth it?
So I'm building this d16a6 with vitara's and I-beams. It'll probably end up between 8 and 8.5ish:1 compression when I'm done. This engine will be for road race, not drag race, so anything above ~250-270 whp will probably just be good for burning up my front tires, so thats what I'm aiming for, with a wide as possible powerband. The current turbo is a t3/t04e with a .48 stage1 exhaust side and a 46 trim compressor wheel (setup is on the bottom of this thread https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...095#msg1214095 ). It spools around 3500 on my z6, so I think it should do the job pretty good.
Now I'm readin that the stock d16a6 valve springs takes a lot of beating, so slapping a cam in there and reving the piss out of it is supposedly ok, so it sounds like something I want. I've never driven a d16 with an aftermarket cam before, so I dont know how the powerband is affected. Is it just moved up, or does it get bigger? And if the turbo can deliver, when does a stock a6 cam stop making power? And where can I get a cheap cam that doesnt require me to send them a core? I cant ship a cam from norway without getting raped at the post office. Any ideas of how to build a 250whp d16a6 with a big as possible powerband that will last through 15-20 minutes sessions are welcome, actually. My head hurts now, I'm having trouble deciding what to do :p Soemthing to look at while you're typing http://fhm.no/image/81165/0/0/533 http://fhm.no/image/79896/0/0/533 |
Re: A6 head. Cam worth it?
i had a d15b2 with the bullfrogg 2624, converted to mpfi. that fucker screamed all the way to 8k with a decent amount of pull.... i was pretty suprised with it.

Re: A6 head. Cam worth it?
Was that with stock d15 springs? If it was, thats pretty awesome, d16 springs should be even "safer"... :6
Anyone know where the stock a6 cam stops making power? Cant find stock cam dyno charts anywhere, in fact I cant find a single a6 graph... |
Re: A6 head. Cam worth it?
yes sir... i honestly felt pretty damn good up at that powerband.... even better with nitrous

Do you still have that delta cam laying around, 13th? |
Re: A6 head. Cam worth it?
