92 civic tranny problem, shifter broke
I'm askin for a buddy, he has a d16z6 in a 92 civic and the shifter wont control the tranny. I'm assumign the shift linkage broke, what im wondering is what and how the tranny is connected to the shifter. Is it cables or direct linkage? Where is it most likely broken? He is outside tryign to check the linkage as we speak on the tranny.

Perfect, couldnt ask for a better answer thank you.

Re: 92 civic tranny problem, shifter broke
my guess...if the linkage didn't brake and fall free to the ground the the "bitch" pin might have fallen out...probably cause someone used a bolt instead of the pin...but thats my guess lots of other things could be wrong too

Re: 92 civic tranny problem, shifter broke
Bitch pin being item 28 on the diagram and named that because its a bitch to get out.

Re: 92 civic tranny problem, shifter broke
lol, yeah that pin is a pita
|
Re: 92 civic tranny problem, shifter broke
not a pita
a Bitch |
Re: 92 civic tranny problem, shifter broke
yeah, but I doubt anyone here can remember who first called it a bitch pin, and it wasn't me!
Now if the shaft going into the tranny is moving, then there is a big problem. |
Re: 92 civic tranny problem, shifter broke
thats all i have ever known it by, Bitch pin. been that way for years. ac compressor bracket bolts with the pointed heads work perfect for getting them out.

Re: 92 civic tranny problem, shifter broke
lol, i just take the ---- off the shifter at the console, then theres 2 bolts that hold it in place underneath. make sure your front end is jacked up at least 4 inches higher than stock, and the entire linkage will come out with the tranny/motor. its a ---- ton easier that way than doing it while in the car.
hope it is something in the linkage, because like bone said, if it ain't sucks to be you and your friend |

Re: 92 civic tranny problem, shifter broke
I dropped my trans with the linkage attached so i had more room to use a punch and hammer.
Air chisel is definitely the way to go though. |
Re: 92 civic tranny problem, shifter broke
I use a flat faced punch, never failed me. There is a good level of suckiness involved in the process though.
